What music did you grow up listening to?

Weather Girl, 14 March, 2011 at 11:30 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 42

My mum always liked Motown so I remember a lot of that. When I was about 4, I liked Belinda Carlisly and The Pet Shop Boys apparently ?

After that, there seems to be a bit of a gap until I got to around 15 when I remember Britney coming on to the scene. I was also a huge Backstreet Boys fan too.

But in response to the OP I had 2 teenage sisters when I was born and I grew up listening to underground reggae shizzle from one and a whole lot of Wham and Heaven 17 from the other!

So now I listen to an awful lot of Indie/Rock/pop punk/Dubstep with a smattering of showtunes and Lady Gaga for good measure.

Its a contraversail choice but I hate RnB type music, and dont even get me started on Take That. ?

Lee still looks good though - haha!!

I now have "I'm a man, not a boy" stuck in my head too - I remember them!

Bros were big in my house thanks to my older sister, R Kelly et al from that era. My mum was a huge David Essex fan and my Dad likes almost any music. He's got a more up to date music collection than me now!

I was always a Lee girl myself!

Actually, they were really nice blokes (well, Lee and Jimmy were, Spike was a grumpy bugger), even if time and a "Rock n Roll" lifestyle haven't been kind to them! ?

I loved Kylie Nogie (as I called her) Jason Donovan, NKOTB, Take That, East 17 and all the other rubbish bands you have all mentioned!

Oh and Ace of Base. I went through a stage of singing with a Swedish accent according to my Mum. Speeeshul child!

Is Spike the bald one? He looks just like the bloke who keeps the road clean outside our office.

I loved loved LOVED Kylie and Jason, New Kids On The Block, Brother Beyond, Neneh Cherry, Yazz, Bananarama, Whitney Houston, Cher, Cyndi Lauper and the might Madonna when I was in junior school.

I went then went through a TT stage but ditched them for Guns N' Roses, Nirvana, RHCP and Bon Jovi literally over night when I was in senior school. I don't like RHCP and BJ now - I find them too 'middle of the road'. I think with Nirvana and Guns N' Roses, they didn't have the chance to 'jump the shark' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_the_shark) so that is why I still love them.

I also liked 90's dance (some AMAZING songs came out around that time), boybands, girlbands and indie music.
