What to wear to a 'colourful' funeral?

R-A, 25 September, 2008 at 14:13 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

As some of you may know from a previous thread, my grandpa passed away last week. His 'thanksgiving service' is tomorrow. Grandma has asked that we don't wear black and wear something 'colouful'.... However I assume she doesn't actually want us all dressed as clowns.

All I seem to have in my wardrobe is smart but mostly dark/grey/black work clothes, jeans and Tshirts and summer dresses (such as you would wear to a wedding), a couple of black dresses. I don't want to look like I've just rocked in from work but also don't want to wear a summer party/wedding type thingy.

Anyone any brainwaves (I am so not a clothes person!)??

TIA

How about one of your dark skirts / trousers and a bright top / cardi?

I'd go with either nice trousers and a colourful top, or a nice dress like

I'd really try to stick to nice sunny colours though, that would be lovely. I hope it all goes well for you ?

Grah, just typed out reply and my computer ate it.

Anyway thanks both, I shall see if I can dig out a top that's the right tone of colourful (don't want to wear a work shirt if poss)

Slightly complicated by the fact that I am 3 dress sizes smaller than this time last year and it transpires that all my autumn/winter type clothes are rather ridiculoursly too big! Don't think strappy tops or sundresses are quite the look grandma's going for....

My friend requested that we all attending her funeral when the time came wore tops in bright colours.

I wore black trousers & a smart pink top.

Thanks for the replies, and thanks for the links BF, Why don't I own anything like those?? ?

Maybe I need a total wardrobe overhaul...

Never bought anything from Boden before - there's some nice middle-of-the-road stuff on there but ? at the prices!

(Btw sorry if I disappear at short notice - waiting for a colleague to turn up for a meeting at any moment)

Did he have a favourite colour that you know of?

My Grandma didn't want everyone in black, so I wore a lilac dress which was her favourite.

Hope it goes as well as it can do
