When do you ask your bridesmaids?

Leanne, 23 February, 2023 at 15:31 Posted on Planning 0 7
Hello!
Very newly engaged here as of last Friday so I’m not planning to just yet but I know who I want my bridesmaids to be. We are getting married September 2025 so when would you ask your bridesmaids to be bridesmaids?

    Congratulations on your engagement!

I got engaged April 2022 with an April 2025 wedding date. I asked my sister to be maid of honor next time I seen her which was July 2022. I'm asking my other 2 bridesmaids in the next couple of months.
I've liked spreading it out a bit to have a bit of excitement every few months, and was also working around some important events in my bridesmaids lives, so that I didn't add another thing onto their plate

I got engaged in December 2020 and my wedding is this June. I had an engagement party in July 2021, so I wanted to ask them before this. I think I ended up asking them in April 2021. It was during the Covid restrictions so I did it outside and ordered grazing platters, balloons etc and I gave them each a gift with a card that asked them.

I think ask them whenever you are ready. I have been friends with my bridesmaids for years, so I knew I wanted to ask them fairly soon.

I asked mine pretty soon after we'd had our venue booked - so about 18 months in advance. FH took a bit longer stressing over who to ask, so he asked his closer to a year in advance. I think it's good to ask early, so people can get invited/feel involved, but not to rush it if there's any doubt in your mind as to who you want in the roles.

I'm going to take a different tack here and suggest leaving it until a year or so before your wedding. Why? Because I've seen soooooooo many posts from brides who've asked their bridesmaids 2 or 3 years before the day only to find as time goes on that the friendships change and they're left having to choose between either having a bridesmaid they don't want or making the difficult decision to 'sack' their bridesmaid. I know you're probably thinking that would never happen to you...but I suspect most if not all of these brides thought the same once!

I asked all four of mine within two months of getting engaged, before we even had a venue/date! It’s nice to have them fully involved as early as possible I think ☺️

    Congratulations!

We are going married in late November 2024, I asked my bridesmaid and bridesman literally a week after the proposal. It's totally up to you to decide Smiley smile
