Worst spelling of a name EVER

FutureMrsRon, 13 April, 2011 at 21:18 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 75

Ok, just watching Four Weddings and one of the brides spells her name Chivonne. I ask you. Ridiculous.

It really riles me when parents try to be edgy and spell their kids' names bizarrely - what's the weirdest spelling you've ever seen? (there are usually loads in Chat magazine LOL)

I've seen some crackers as a teacher, one pupil had a celtic spelling of FIONNAUGHLA pronounced FINOOLA.

SHAWNEE is another one.....why they wanted to call their child that I'll never know.

I have a MIA and a MIA in once class and both are said differently, arrgghhhhh!

then theres the polish; KALEB is Jacob........

I once worked with someone who I had been in email contact with called Siobhan, So when I wen to speak to her I obviously called her byt the normal pronunciation (said like chevonne) to be met with glares from her team and some one whispering to me ' its pronounced si-ob-han!!' i can only guess her parents saw it written and didnt know the pronunciation and thought, how unusual!!! hehe obviously it was a bit of a sore point for her

Not quite bad spelling but bad pronunciation. At lady at our other office had a baby girl last year and of course we all asked what they were going to call her. She replied the baby's name will be Dello-rays (I've spelt it phonetically for you). We where a bit surprised but said "how lovely" (you can't turn around to a new mother and say, no that's crap, what were you smoking when you came up with that, can you?)

Some time later little envelopes appeared on people's desks inviting them to little Dolores' christening.

A family friend's daughter is named 'Tayla.' I love the name 'Taylor' for a girl but I just cringe at that spelling!

I'm a Stacey and always get Stacie or Stacy. Just don't think it looks right any other way!

I'm called Lisa, very common name, nothing fancy, nothing unexpected but the amount of people that ask me if that's spelt with a z is just baffling.

There's someone at work called Katherynne - yet another version of that spelling.

The mind boggles sometimes, I'm dreading getting my new surname and having to constantly spell that out already, it must be a right pain to constantly have to spell your first name too!

I'd never spell Notts Lass like that.........

I think the guy in the Young Ones was spelt Vyvyan, so maybe they got it from there ?

A cracking one from Chat magazine was Mikul - they weren't Polish or Russian or anything, just a normal family from Hull or somewhere. It just look so naff (sorry to anyone whose version of Michael is spelt this way!)

Did you spot how many more girls names there are than boys?

Are some parents more random with naming females compared to males?

My mum's name is Gail (honest reason, it was really windy when she was born, gotta love my granddad's sense of humour!!) and apparently when she went to school she was on their records as Abigail. Her sister Mandy was down as Amanda.

My ex once got a new bank card and the bank had decided to give him a middle name lol he had to take his birth certificate in to prove he didn't have one

People get my name wrong all the time - it's Jaimie, not Jamie, or Jaime or Jamey!!!! I do get called Janie as well sometimes, often I don't have the heart to say anything but there are odd occasions where I have to tell them that it's Jaimie as in "the boys name!". Most of the people I work with can't spell my name which really grates on me as it's in my email address and signature for goodness sake!!!!

The spelling of my name has driven me mad for my entire life (thanks Mum!). I'm a Kati.

    Usual conversations with people go:

    'what's your name?'

    'Kati'

    'is that with an IE?'

    'er no'

'Oh sorry is it with a Y?'

    'er no'

    *blank look and silence*

People in my family still put an E on the end, and at work I get emails and letters with an E on the end even though my name is on what I sent them in the first place, they must think I mis-spelt it!!
