Hi

were getting married in june 2016, we have not chose our venue yet but we're hoping to get thorton manor in cheshire. we've worked out that venue will most likely cost us around 20k including catering and rooms for some guest. (we have around 230 guest overall, by the way) i am worried that the rest of the budget (20k) wont be enough for the rest of the stuff needed for a wedding. please note that i do like really over the top things e.g lots of flowers, entertainment, grand decor and im hoping to get 2 dresses ?

what do you guys think, do you think 20k will be enough?

Please help x

Every wedding is wonderful so long as it's two people willing to pledge their ever lasting love so whether you have 40 pounds 400 pounds or 40 thousand pounds it's still wonderful and exciting. In fact one of my ffavourite wedding reports on here was a wedding that didn't cost a lot but the love you could see was just beautiful whereas another clearly cost a lot but was equally a favourite due to the love. won't name names but that's what I thought

how's the wedding planning going toyah? can't remember without going back through the thread have you a date planned yet?

No I've not yet picked a dress. There's a few designers that I love so hopefully in the next couple months I will get that sorted

Why is there the assumption that it will be flashy and over the top? I could easily spend that (and more) and the day would still be elegant and refined. And in all honesty when you add it all together (exclusive hotel 20K, Dress 3-5K...) it really adds up very fast! It's only double the average spend after all.

I agree and someone's "flashy and over the top" is someone else's " refined and elegant"...we're all different and have varying tastes. Doesn't mean the day will be any less special for the happy couple. Would love to see a report and pics!

Yep, the pregnant thread really was astonishing. I read a post somewhere where it was suggested Hitched got together all of the amazingly awkward posts and kept them as a sticky - I so wish they would do that!

    Hi Guys

Heres a little update of my 40k wedding. To some spending 40k on a wedding is ridiculous, during the last few months of planning i began to think the exact same and was wishing we had just gone abroad and had a small wedding. But I'm glad we didn't. Our wedding was literally the most amazing day ever! All the little details was what made it so special. The day went to plan perfectly, the weather was beautiful and our wedding guests are still talking about how amazing the day was!

We got married in a beautiful church in didsbury, manchester followed by cocktail hour and reception at Tatton park, Cheshire. I had 8 bridesmaids and 2 flower girls, the hubby had 9 groomsmen.

During cocktail hour we served porn star martinis and dark & stormy cocktails along with a few different canepes, we had soft music playing in the background whilst the guest enjoyed the scenery in tatton gardens. Unfortunately we didn't get to enjoy much of our cocktail hour as we was getting our photos taken.

The guest were then led into the tatton mansion to be seated. We had 155 guests for the day so most of our budget got spent on food and drinks. We served an amazing 3 course meal and lots of wine provided by horseradish (highly recommended) followed by speeches. We had mini bottle of Mozart (chocolate cream alcohol) for favours and i made colouring books with sweets for the kids.

The curtains were then opened for cake cutting and our choreographed first dance which included the famous dirty dancing lift.

The evening party began at around 7.30 when around 100 extra guest joined the party. For evening entertainment we had a magician, Photo Booth, sweet cart and a sax lady who played along with our 3 DJs. ( We had a house, reggae, Rnb dj) I also made a slipper box for the guests, which everyone loved ( i got the flip flops from primark)

For the evening food we had a caribbean BBQ which i didn't taste but i heard it was amazing.

All in all the day was perfect and we don't regret spending 40k on one day. Unfortunately we haven't got all our photos back yet but i will attach a few of the ones we have.

PS Things i saved money on

Invites - I really wanted Acrylic invites and i found them cheap on a chinese website called ali express, they costed me like £2 each and the ones from uk sellers cost like £8 each. I DIY glitter lined envelopes to go with my acrylic invites.

Also got my evening invites from her for less than £1 each, they were amazing too.

Veil - Costed me £5 from a seller in china on ebay. I wanted a plain veil so didn't think there was any point buying an expensive one.

Cake - My mums a baker and she made me the most amazing 7 tier cake.

Underwear - i just brought cheap knickers from hm which ended up going in the bin as i couldn't get them back up when i went to the toilet.

Hairstylist - I done my hair my self as i just wanted it curled and there was no point in getting someone to do it.

Made my own table numbers, brought frames from pound land and printed out a template.

    Any questions just ask xx

Ive just realised that all the photos are on my old phone so i will attach some better ones soon
