Another walking down the aisle one.

Arquard, 7 March, 2011 at 16:11 Posted on Planning 0 18

I need a song.

I was going to have my friend playing Pachelbel's Canon on his guitar but he's getting cold feet so I need a back-up I can put on the CD along with the background music to play while people are finding their seats.

The background songs we've picked are while everyone's assembling are:

  • Sixpence None The Richer - Kiss Me
  • Newton Faulkner - Dream Catch Me
  • Jose Gonzalez - Heartbeats
  • Your Song - Elton John
  • Fleetwood Mac - Songbird
  • Florence and the Machine - You've Got The Love

There isn't another classical piece I liked (having googled extensively and read about 100 articies suggesting music to walk down the aisle to) and the only songs that are any variety of meaningful to me and h2b are all heavy metal and not exactly appropriate! I thought maybe Apocalyptica's cover of Nothing Else Matters, which is beautiful but I'm not sure if it sounds a bit sombre.

What's everyone else having and how did you pick it? Hoping for some inspiration!

Is there a film or TV programme you both like that has beautiful music - it crops up in the most unlikely places!!! The theme from David Attenborough's Blue Planet, or Planet Earth are both amazing pieces of music. I'm walking in to the music from Jurassic Park when they see the dinosaurs for the first time - if you close your eyes and listen to it, it's a very moving piece of music and just beautiful, plus we both LOVE Jurassic Park and watch it at least once a week ?

Have you seen Hannibal? The opera music in that scene where they're at the opera (surprisingly!) is absolutely breathtaking

THAT is an excellent idea. We're big big BIG sci-fi/fantasy geeks so a lot of the wedding themes are centered around that.

Actually there is a song on the True Blood soundtrack that we both like. It's the Watson Twins cover of "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZlnCR8nitc

I always thought the "Battlestar Galactica" theme was always a very "triumphal entrance" sort of piece of music...

My daughter is having a jazz band play her down the aisle and they've written a jazz version of Here comes the Bride because she so wanted this but not in the traditional way!

If I had the balls to do it, I'd totally want to walk down the aisle to the Star Wars theme. Maybe I should investigate the soundtrack to find another, less obviously nerdy piece....

Why change it? It'd be brilliant!!!!!! It's your big entrance, the biggest moment of the day for you, make it even more memorable ? and do it as a surprise for your OH, he'll love it too I bet.

I'm all for doing things your way, who cares what other people will think - this is the one day you get to make every decision.

    Feel the force!!!

How's this? Beautiful piece of music, from one of our favourite ever films but would take a fellow Star Wars nerd to recognise it

I am seriously tempted to get our music guy to play the first couple of bars of the Imperial March as a bit of a joke before starting to play the 'proper' song....our whole ceremony is going to be very relaxed and informal and I know that most of the guests would think that it was hilarious!!

You should do it! I'm hoping to have Victory Celebration (music at the end of Return of the Jedi - Despite the SW reference its a beautiful piece of music on its own) which then goes into the main theme and medley for our signing of the register music. Just have to convince OH that it needs to continue into the theme hehe ?. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rd7Wh4vrVyk

Deffo worth a listen to the soundtrack. I ❤️ John Williams - There's truly beautiful pieces of music in all the films.

That is beautiful, is your day going to be very formal because I think it would be perfect for something very traditional, but if it's a relaxed day then it might be a bit sad. Just listening to it on its own I thought it sounded a bit sombre but I could imagine watching a beautiful bride walk past me in it in a posh stately home ?

Oooh I like that, so uplifting - I'd say it'd be better for a processing back up the aisle piece - has a party/celebration feel to it

Right, I think that may have settled it. Or at the very least it's made it to the final heap. Feeling much brighter now!
