Anyone involving their pets?

Caraboo, 11 July, 2012 at 21:03 Posted on Planning 0 43

Just out of interest? Dressing them up? Having them escort you down the aisle?

I guess that kind of thing might not be so easy in most licensed venues, but I was just wondering.

I would love my two fur-children to be involved, but it's just not practical (trying to hold two wriggling ferrets still through a ceremony or getting them to go where YOU want them to go just ain't gunna happen!!). There will be quite a few (well-behaved!) dogs there, though, and I fully expect them to have dickie bows and ribbons ?.

Our venue is dog friendly, so ours is staying there with us and will be in the room during the ceremony, but not carrying rings or anything (our son will do that). I think the Ushers will take it in turns to look after her in the day, and she will be shut in a bedroom during the food. She's an old girl so will be happy to have the rest!

Oh, and she will have a nice collar, but not be dressed up beyond that.

I would love to have my furkid with us but husky fur & black suits don't mix....neither does excitable husky jumping & a delicate lace dress :-(

That would be awesome but sadly no.
Our tables will be named after our pets and the top table after both of our childhood dogs.

I'll have the cats as cake toppers but that's it.

They'd hate a wedding, they are scared of everything!!

ETA not the actual cats. Clay cake toppers!

We're off to a wedding next year with a dog friendly venue. We have a very doggy family so anyone who would usually look after the dogs is off to the wedding. And kennels is not a solution for alot of them although I'm of the opion a one off doesnt hurt...

I think it will be fun and interesting, luckily we know the dogs get along, however we have a very fluffy and will be big by then akita and I'm unsure about the fur and fancy clothes situation...

I don't think my hamsters would have liked it much.

It would freak me out to have a dog at a wedding ceremony, especially if it was anything other than impeccably behaved.

HAHA, I would pay good money to see a hamster dressed up in wedding attire!

The good thing is, I know all the dogs and they're all very well behaved except maybe one which is whiney, but that belongs to a BM anyway so will be in her room during the ceremony. I shall have to discuss this with her before the day, because he jumps up, too and I definitely don't want that! The ceremony's being held outside (weather permitting!) so it's not like they'd be in a church or a stately home or something. I think I'd find that weird!

My two kittens aren't coming within a mile of my wedding dress!! Sadly they won't be involved in the wedding. In fact I'm a little concerned as to who's going to look after them as everyone I know will be away with us for the wedding! :-S

    Pets at weddings ?

Also, what about the guests who are scared of furries? Or have allergies? My Dad can't get anywhere near certain dog hairs without having an asthma attack. And one of my BMs runs a mile when she sees a dog.

This. Animals set off my chum's asthma so would be a bit cruel to have them there. I also think this opens you up to having paw prints aaaall over your lovely dress.

There wasn't a cat in hell's chance I was having my dog at my wedding.

I can kind of see it if you're having a casual garden party at home style reception (a bit like George Banks' daydream in Father of the Bride...) but other than that, it's not for me I'm afraid!

Ours is so much a part of the family, and she is old, so kennels not an option. Quite a few of our guests have dogs, mostly the same breed. We have gift bags for favours with a dog on them to help tie it together.

Our wedding planner takes her dog to work all the time, and she is looking forward to us havin ours there.

a quick word to anyone else, if you are having animals in the room during the ceremony, you must get permission from the Registrar

Frankly, if I could get them to keep still long enough, let alone get an outfit on them (mini BM dresses, as they are both girls, of course!) I think I should get a prize!

I want some cat cake toppers but thats as far as their attendance is going. They will probably go in a cattery for a couple of nights, keep them out the way.

I can just imagine peoples faces if I wandered down the aisle with one small tiger and 6 chickens in tow.

I understand that pets are a part of the family, my cats are my babies- they were not however invited to my wedding! Total madness. I didn't even want children there let alone animals.

I'm sure I read a news story at some point where a woman had dyed her dog (the ring bearer!) to fit in with the colour scheme ?

I would have thought you were all bonkers but since iv had my puppy I can understand it. If we got married again now I'd definitely want to have her in some pictures with us. And would be taking a doggy bag ? back for her!
