Are you cautious with heating?

porkchop, 1 November, 2012 at 11:05 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 46

Have you put your heating on yet? How often do you have it on?

My H would rather put the heating on and sit in a t shirt, rather than putting on a jumper first and it really annoys me! He also puts the electric heater on in the bathroom, which I think is a waste when all you do is get out of the shower, put a towel on and go to the bedroom to get changed! I'll happily put it on if it proper cold like now, but just the hour advance and see if its still cold after and then put it on again if needs be. And we dont have it on in the morning before work as we both literally get up and go, no hanging around. Am I tight?

The first time the heating went on this year (well this end fo the year) was the weekend, i wasnt allowed it on til then (and apparently cos im pregnant im warmer them him anyway!!)

We only have it on first thing in the morning at the mo, for a couple hours. We have a stand alone heater hidden in the lounge we swicth on in the evenings as thats where we are. and only need to heat that room so no need for the full heating on!

Nope - I'm extremely un-cautious with the heating.

H goes mad. I'd have it on constantly if I could during winter. I hate feeling cold in the house.

We never used to be, but we are now. Although H would still rather sit in a t-shirt with the heating on than go and find a jumper to wear. I just chuck a jumper at him now.

We have the heating on a timer to come on just before we get up to warm the house (only for about 2hrs) and last thing at night to warm the bedroom.

As much as I hate being cold, I am still cautios with the heating at home simply because the energy bills are ridiculous and are constantly going up.

    I hate being cold!

We put the radiators on for an hour or so in the evening and then turn them off, the place stays warm until we've gone to sleep.

In the morning he gets up first and puts them on for an hour/half an hour and then turns them off, so the place is warm when I get up until we leave for work.

Ours is only on for a couple of hours a day at the moment. H is another one who will wear a t-shirt and put the heating on. I turn it off once the room is warm and point out that he has plenty of jumpers if he is still cold.

We have it on for an hour or so in the morning atm and that's it. When it gets to the point that we're cold even with hoodies on then we'll have it on in the evening.

Yes oh has it on all the time (or the air con when it's hot) so I'm forever turning it off and he is actually genuinely suprised when the massive bill comes in...does it stop him though no of course not!

I hardly ever use my heating at all. Maybe four or five times in total during the year!

We do have an open fire which we light on a Sunday afternoon - great to slob in front of. I can't sleep in heated bedrooms. Even now, the window is wide open all night.

Being an inner terrace house I think the neighbours keep us warmer. Either that or I am a polar bear.

We have storage heaters. I only use the ones in the kids rooms, to make sure they're warm. H and I just have layers and extra blankets.

It comes on 5am -8am then again 4:30pm -11pm. It has some super special thng in it so that if the house drops below 10 degrees it automatically tunrs on so that the pipes dont freeze.

I work outside and I'm cold all day, I can's stand being cold at home as well.

I'm normally quite cautious but I haven't been this year. We've had it on quite a bit. I wouldn't put it on if I was the only one home though.

Yep, I'm a right scrooge with money (because we never have any) So I still haven't turned the heating on. OH never gets cold and I just put my dressing gown on (any excuse) Our flat is pretty small so the oven heats it up when i cook anyway!

    I can't cope being cold.

We've had the heating on for several weeks now - OH actually put it on first. The bedroom radiator is down very low because both of us hate a hot bedroom and the window is always open unless it's exceptionally windy.

Heating is on 6.30 to 8.30 in the morning and 5.00 to 10.30 at night. Keep meaning to set it to come on at lunchtime at weekends too.

In the evenings if I'm cold I put a scarf on - it's surprising how it helps, I do the same at work when the silly air-con is on too high

We weren't allowed it on it our house until the 1st October, even though it was freeeezing.

Now I have it on most of the time as I'm a really cold person. It's on a timer so only comes on when we're in the house, but we have it on 20-22 degrees. Even then, I'll be cold. And I'll be wearing jumpers, slippers, socks, the whole hog!

Hubby is a really hot person though, so he'll be sitting in a t-shirt while I'm covered from head to toe. He thinks I'm mad!

I only turned ours on a little bit last week because we were airing the flat to get rid of the smoke smell and it was FREEZING!!

I turned it off again this week as H normally complains about it. He doesn't feel the cold as much as me normally and we have loads of blankets in our living room for when we get a little chilly.

I came home about 8pm last night and the heating was full on - H was cold and thought I'd be happy. I was sweating!! However, this does mean I'm allowed to turn it on to our normal winter settings of half an hour before we get up (so it's not too cold to climb out of bed) an hour before we get home and and hour in the evening while we're relaxing so I'm a happy bunny

We have a real fire so we tend not to have the central heating on in the evening as if we are sitting watching telly he'll chuck some logs on. I will wear a jumper and thicker trousers if I am cold during the day as I build a rubbish fire. He's a tree surgeon, chimney sweep and log man so it's free fuel!

In the morning and before bed we'll have the heating on for an hour to feel comfortable. We are planning on installing a second fire in the bedroom to use logs to warm the room up at night. I tend to put the heating on for half hour when I use the shower as I hate getting out and it's cold.

We don't have kid yet so I think it's easier when it's just us to feel the cold. When I was childminding, I had the heating on up to 22c to make sure the kids weren't cold. Now I am sitting here in a jumper, slippers and scarf, it's 16c. BRR!

Today is the best day as I am finally allowed the heating on. OH works outside so does not feel the cold. He wont let me have it on until 1st Nov. He even bought be a polar fleece onesie last year to stop me moaning.

I put in on and he switches it off. A the moment I am sleeping in tshirt, joggers and a hoodie and he is just in boxers with no duvet! There is something wrong with him I swear!

Our heating went on 3-4 weeks ago. I hate being cold and we live in an old house without wall cavities, so it's inefficient and doesn't retain heat well. This week when I've been at home in the day I've had it on all day, but radiators are turned off in rooms we don't use. At the end of the day, our heating is never going to be cheap - we aren't on the mains so have an oil tank in the garden and pay £74 a month!! - so a few extra hours isn't going to make a massive difference.

    Nope

Life is too short to be cold. Staff discount helps too.

People shouldn't be scared to put their heating on, there are always ways around reducing your consumption so that you can afford to live how you want to without being crippled by the bills.

My heating has been on since we got back from HM in August ?

I am constantly cold, H is always too hot. I sit in layers of clothes, plus duvet, and he sits with just a T shirt and shorts on and is quite happy.

We are to a degree. We have storage heaters which are a pain in the arse but if it gets cold then we will put them on in the lounge and kitchen/diner then that will be it as these are the two rooms we spend most time in.

For Flow, Saisi and the other upduffers, what will you do when baby's here? We have a heater in babies room which we will obviously have on but the rest of the house will still be cold and it will be so expensive to put the heaters on in every room.

Oddly, although I feel the cold more than OH, he is nearly always the first to put the heating on. I think this stems from my student days when my flatmates and I would sit in our Arctic flat in loads of layers and our duvets while studying. It was lovely and cool in the summer though!

We have night storage heaters, which I hate, as I can never get them to heat the place when I want it warm. If we had proper central heating maybe I would be a bit more generous now I can afford the bills.

Yes but only because if I'm in the lounge I have no idea it's on cos for some reason I have no radiator in this room but every other room in the house :/ Fire goes on whenever I want.

In the height of winter it goes on a timer to come on in the morning and in the evening for a few hours but at the moment we just switch it on whenever. It has a button on it that you can put it on for just an hour and this tends to be enough to keep it warm most of the evening. If H is on earlies he leaves the house at 5 so quite often flicks it on for an hour as he leaves so it is warm when I get up before we start with the timer. I hate being cold !

We used to be cautious when it was just me and H, but now we have our 18 month old son we put the heating on for an hour or so in the morning when he gets up and for half an hour/hour in the evening so that it is nice and warm when he gets out of the bath.

We are hot people anyway so will always put on a big fluffy dressing gown and slippers first. Maybe have the heating on for an hour or two before a bath to get the house toasty. I do wonder what will happen with baby- will it have to be on most of be time or just wrap up baby good and proper?

Ours is set at a certain temperature and if it drops below that temp the heating comes on, , be it December or July.

I like being warm so will just use it as an excuse to have the heating on more!

We'll get a room thermometer and just make sure it's warm wherever the baby is, plus he'll be in with us to begin with.
