Do you consider yourself to be a good driver?

HatTrick, 20 December, 2011 at 19:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 31

I'll happily admit that I'm not a good driver.

Actual driving is ok but if another driver annoys me it really winds me up and rather than just letting them past etc I'll drag it out and won't let them bully me. It's silly really.

Yes- Like Tricks and very confident- get very annoyed by the sterotype "women driver", being over cautious and hesitant.

I do love a bit of the old road rage though, especially in MrMinis super fast car ?

Haha all of this. Although Mr Kharv obviously. Not Mr Mini. That would be odd.

Oh I'm confident, probably overly so. I think my little 206 can take on the world!

    Just discussing this with OH.

Until I had a serious accident 3 years ago and shut a motorway I was very confident and comfortable on any road.I am now a nervous wreck

I want to get the train home for christmas (60miles) OH thinks we should take car. Travelling separate anyway.

Now I am trying to decide if OH should take car while I am at work and I will get train where I will worry excessively. Or I drive and possibly panic all the way.He thinks I am good driver and can do it. I doubt myself.

All this to get to the parents for christmas!

Yes, I do, better than H anyway - he frightens me sometimes.

I've been told by many people that I'd make an excellent rally driver, not sure what that says about my regular road driving though. I'm very confident. I get very bad road rage too, I'm a shouter.

I think I am a good driver. I am attentive and careful but not slow or hesitant. I get road rage from time to time though. The worst is at the roundabout near my house. It's the entrance to Liverpool Freeport and there are lorries coming and going from there all day, they pull out of the docks onto the roundabout without stopping and looking. They literally pull out and go regardless of who is on the roundabout. I have had to slam on in the middle of the roundabout many a time, I worry one day I won't slam on hard enough or that someone will go into the back of me when I do.

That said, in a rush one day last week I pulled out onto the same roundabout in front of someone who I thought was going very slowly. He had to brake behind me and he beeped me. I felt awful and was pretty shaken. It's very, very rare that I have near misses like that though.

Yep I think I'm an excellent driver haha (modest too!). To be honest, other drivers worry me more.

Sometimes I can get overly confident, and make the odd rash decision to go at a roundabout or something when perhaps it would be better not to. But as my instructor taught me, if you're going to make a decision then you need to carry it through with confidence and not hesitate. But I'm also a considerate driver, always give way when I'm sposed to, let cars into queues etc, indicating to let people know what I'm doing yada yada.

But there is one thing I'm rubbish at. Living up to the old gender stereotype (sorry ladies) I am crap at parking.

I am not overly confident, mainly due to the road conditions up here for half the year, I'm always taking it canny in case of black ice on the way to work etc, and I do get road rage but I am very capable in my domain....I will not do big cities though, I learned to drive in the back of beyond with no experience of busy roads at all - this is not a good thing.

I am happy to do the train for cities.

I haven't taken my test yet but from my endless driving lessons I've learned that I'm a very nervous driver. I know how to control a car; I understand the rules of the road and how to handle various hazardous scenarios. However, as soon as I get onto the road I become instantly convinced that everyone else is out to kill me and I lose all faith in my own decision making. It doesn't help that I'm a nervous pedestrian too and it takes me forever to cross a road.

I think I am a good driver. I am not one of those who just watches the car in front, I pre-empt everything and everyone around me as some drivers and pedestrians do random things that can cause an accident.

In cities I am more aggressive as I will never get anywhere but where I live we let cars out and signal thankyou when the favour is returned and stop for pedestrians who are trying to cross a busy road.

When people don't acknowledge when you let them out or don't indicate at roundabouts I get the rage!

Hell yes! I passed first time with 3 minors, I have done my pass plus and the instructor told me I was one of the most competent drivers he had seen. I will drive anything confidently including a small truck when my mate had to move house and the hand brake didn't work properly :-)

Love driving! Got to blow my own trumpet, no bugger else will!

Hell yes!! And i didn't mind who i shout it at when i'm behind the wheel lol!!

I just can't stand drive who can't anticipate the road, roundabout, traffic.. ie stopping at mini roundabouts when there is nothing coming... OMG don't get me started lol!!

My first car was a 1970's VW beetle and went i stopped it conked out so that might explain the above hehe

I'm not sure really. I have been driving for almost 10 years and never had an accident or anything, but that might be more down to luck than judgement. I don't get nervous or anything and am happy driving pretty much anywhere, I just don't think I'm particularly "good." How do you know?

I'm quite a nervous driver when driving in a new town but apart from that I think I'm fairly good. I do get terrible road rage though when I'm in a bad mood (usually after work) and Mr R says he wouldn't be surprised if someone gets out of their car and punches me one day. Like someone else said, I dont like d**kheads thinking they can bully me when driving.

I think I'm quite a good driver but not very confident at all if I don't know the area and start to panic. If I know where I am going then I am fine.

    Well I am told on a regular basis that I'm cr@p ?

I've had 2 crashes, one with a double decker bus (although I have to state that was not my fault) and am always scuffing my car.

    Anyone want a lift? ?

I am a good driver in regards to my day to day commute but I'm terrible at driving if I don't know where I'm going, and having to look at signs/work it out. That makes me really nervous then my driving suffers because of that.

Road rage wise I love shouting at folk, using words I'd never anywhere else but alone in the car! I also get a kick out of being nice and being curteous, and like when I get a wee wave or a flash to say thank you. If they don't say thank you then I shout more bad words at them!

I'm a fairly good driver in that I am sensible and don't take risks etc...but I get terrible road rage! I won't be bullied by other drivers who see my little retro Fiesta as fair game, and I cannot park unless the space is big enough to get the Titanic in sideways.

I am good at manoeuvres. ?

Because I drive a lot on the motorway, I think this has given me increased confidence in my driving abilities. I have had a few accidents though so maybe I am not really as good as i'd like to think!

When i passed my test i was fine, i drove a lot for work, school runs and giving h lifts etc but when H passed his test i became very unconfident as H does ALL the driving and uses the car for work as i started working from home so i just dont really drive anymore. i loved my car but when it died we got a different car which after a while started to cut out randomly so i was too scared to drive it then the car we have now is a big car ( i hate driving big cars). its my dads car that hes lent us while we save for something better/newer so i think i will feel more confident in a newer car that hopefully has no faults!

I can get from A to B without any problem so I guess I'm ok! I get a bit colourful with my language sometimes, but only when I'm driving alone or with H.

I learned to drive when I was 17 and had never driven since the day I passed my test until getting a car at 26! Needless to say I went for 6 refresher lessons, after which my instructor refused to give me any more stating "Grow a set and drive your car"! I don't regret learning when I was young, I was cash and time rich at the time, now I'm neither!

On an aside - I've got a Christmas car air freshner hanging thing and I love that my car smells like Christmas! #saddo
