Haircut dilemma

ajdown, 28 July, 2011 at 08:32 Posted on Planning 0 29

Sigh... what would you do?

Obviously, I'm going to need to get a haircut a couple of weeks before the wedding. Nothing fancy, straightforward trim and tidy up as always.

However, I have two options.

Firstly, there's a guys hairdressers round the corner from home. Used him a few times, perfectly acceptable result.

Secondly, in the town where I grew up (150 miles each way trip) there is a guy called Kenny, who is still cutting hair, he did my first ever haircut as a baby and, wherever possible I've coordinated needing haircuts with visiting family down there and been back to see him.

The cost of the haircut is pretty much the same - however I do feel a certain loyalty to Kenny, and feel like I should give him the honour of "doing my wedding hair" - but it's going to take at least a day in travelling and about £40-£50 in transport costs on top of it.

Time, particularly weekends, is at a premium obviously in the last few weeks before the wedding, but I really don't know whether the loyalty aspect v the hassle of going to Kenny outweighs the guy round the corner.

    Honestly?

You're completely overthinking it, go to the place round the corner if you like how they do your hair. Have you really got the time and money to travel that far for the same haircut?

Mr C cut his own hair... ?

But yes, WRS... I agree that you are overthinking it, especially if it is just a "tidy-up".

If you were going for a full on fancy up-do then I would say Kenny, but you are not... I hope...

    The place round the corner.

I'm sure Kenny will live with not cutting your hair for your wedding....

Go with the dude around the corner. See Kenny another time. Kenny wont mind and probably won't feel like it's owed to him.

MrB has no hair, so I can't empathise will male hair cutting habits. However, unless you're going to see family anyway, go with the guy round the corner. Kenny will get over it.

If you are going to end up with exactly the same haircut go round the corner, Im sure Kenny won't lose any sleep over it. However if he does your hair better go and pay him a visit

WEES. It would be a different story if you were going for something a bit specialist like this:

I don't think a trip to Kenny will be necessary. I am sure he will understand, just go to the local one.

Actually, yes I was. "Haircuts by Kenny" is a bit of a family tradition going back many years.

If you can afford to spend £50 on petrol getting there and then paying for whatever the hair cut costs then do it but I think it's a massive waste of time and money.

Seriously??? You say you're on a budget but then consider spending £50 or so on driving to a barbers and getting a haircut!!! No one will notice if your hair was cut by Kenny or the man round the corner! I would to hear your reaction if this was one of the brides on here asking this question!!!

    Is Cartman not available?

I jest, just go round the corner and save a few bob. Does Kenny know you are getting married if not then no problem!

Considering women's hair cutting is overpriced with or without a wedding, I'm not entirely sure it's an accurate comparison.

If you consider that £50 to get my hair done is expensive, then maybe it is. If for that £50, my hairdresser came round my house, dyed and cut my hair and spent 2hrs doing it, then I think that £50 is good value.

I think if a B2B had been in your dilemma, then you would advise to save the extra petrol money and get it cut locally. But if it would feel like a betrayal and you would regret going round the corner, then it might be worth the £50

The general price for women to get their hair done is high and nothing that we can really do about that.

Your asking us opinion on whether you spend an extra £50 on petrol, which you dont have to do, to get the same price and quality of haircut that you could get round the corner. I'm using the hair dresser I have use all the time to do my hair for my wedding and would not travel halfway round the country especially for it.

You asked for peoples opinions. But if you want Kenny so much, go with Kenny.

    Pre Wedding Haircut - £15

Cost Of Hair Dye - £3.99

Cost Of Having Hair Curled And Put Up On The Day - £15.

    Hardly overpriced, love....

I'm just jealous you have hair.

I am sure Kenny will forgive you this once. Unless you want to go see Kenny of course.

My friends and I, once all used a barber called Kevin. He wasn't very good but he was such a grumpy old git and would say the funniest things that it became a tradition. Kevin is no longer with us sadly, but I am sure if he was, I would not be going to him, as entertaining as I once found his views on mediocre movies of the early nineties , he couldn't cur hair for toffee. Sorry Kevin.

Exactly - I pay a lot to have my hair done, because I have highlights. The comparison is, do I spend £60 and go to my local hairdresser, or spend £60 plus £50 in petrol to go to the one I used to use when I was a kid. No brainer in my opinion.
