Hey folks

I have been wedding dress hunting the last few weeks and it is sooooo expensive. Every dress I love is about a grand. My parents are willing to pay this. The dresses are beautiful but can this be justifed for one day? Has anyone used these sites where they make a dress (copy of one) to your size?

Thanks

My dress was supposed to be £999 but when i bought it there was a £100 off special offer so i got it for £899.

I tried on a few dresses in the sale as well, one that i really liked was only £150!!! So always worth checking sale dresses.

Mine was £1200. I know my cousin got one from a sample sale that was very very cheap and looked lovely - was about 5 sizes too big for her though so needed a lot of adjusting.

Carolinebride, theres a few. I tried on a couple of samples in size 16 and 18 on saturday, but you have to look carefully. You might find some in plus size shops (i hate saying that)

You might have to look a bit harder but it's definitely possible - my dress is a sample one and a size 18 from a 'regular' (ie non plus sized - I hate that term too DWC!) bridal shop.

Thank you so much Liverbird and DWC.

A good friend has suggested taking me to Curvy Brides, but I worry that I'll just see fat lady dresses! I know I know, I won't be able to tell until I go and check it out, but the idea makes me feel awful.

Dont bother with the copy sites - the quality is rubbish! They never fit properly, the workmanship is always poor (as they are normally made in a chinese workshop so no care goes into them) and the materials are cheap. Save your money!

Its always worth shopping round for sample sales etc. My dress is a Trudi Lee dress, should have been £1100, reduced to £600 as it was a sample, further reduced to £500 after a bit of negotiation!

As a previous poster says, if you tell them your budget is £1,000 they will normally only show you dresses for £1,000. Try going into the shops and asking what they have in every price range UP TO £1,000. And ask if they have any samples for sale.

Mine was a brand new Sonsie by Veromia gown which cost me £495 from a bridal dress outlet shop in Hornsea.

Mine is a size 22 so plus sizes definately out there cheap.

On a side note I am selling a second hand alfred angelo gown in a 22 on ebay for less than £200 at the moment (shameless plug ?)

My mum set aside £1000 for my dress but I didn't feel comfortable spending that much. I couldn't help thinking of all the other things that it could be spent on and now my dress budget has stretched to cover my MOH, 3 child bridesmaids, hair and makeup and our crystal bouquets.

I looked at dresses from charity shop bargains at under £100 right up to the top of the budget. I got mine in a sale in a local shop, reduced from £895 to £225. They must have had it in the shop forever as I can't find any pictures on the Veromia website or anywhere else but it's just perfect for me. I am a 16-18 in most clothes shops but somehow ended up with a size 14 dress and there were lots of others that fit me but just weren't right so I'm sure you'll be able to find something.

I was really lucky, I fell in love with a Maggie Sottero dress but couldn't afford the £1,300 price tag but then found my dress online as an ex sample for less than £300. It was a size too big but alterations only cost £80. Its perfect, not a mark or a bead missing! saved myself £1k :-)

Mine was £895. My BM dresses were £170 each, but because I brought 5 she let me have them at £120 each. So my dress and 5 BM dresses under £1500! I budgeted £2000 for all so very happy! xxx

Get the one you love and then maybe sell on to another bride on ebay and see if you can get some money back? (I think I'm going to keep mine though!) Smiley smile xx

Yes I guess if you can get half of the cost back by selling it after, it's only half the cost, really (trying to convince myself!

    Re:

I got my dress and im a 16-18 as a sample, i called up the shops i was going to look in and asked if they 1, had anything in my buget 2, had it in my size and then i new before i went and they only sowed me what they had.

Mine was £300 reduced from Just under £800 and for that they got it dry cleaned too.

Fatbride that is brilliant news - you have given me hope and a plan for a new approach. Thank you ? C x

Mine has a half price sample at £450, but I would have happily paid the full £900 for it had it not been available so cheap! How could I have resisted!!!
