If money were no object what would you do differently?

annie2000, 20 December, 2011 at 12:18 Posted on Planning 0 28

Just out of interest and for a bit of fun, as the title says, what, if anything, would you do/have done differently about your wedding if cost wasn't a factor?

I would have our wedding as originally planned on our little island in Greece and paid for all the people we love to come with us, I would also be having Bon Jovi play at our reception Smiley smile

Well most of my wedding would most likely still be the same. If I had oodles of money, I could have looked at more expensive dresses originally so perhaps my dress would be different, and I'd have a free bar in the evening if I had the money. But apart from that (and better gifts for attendants etc) it would be the same I think, we've found the essence of what we want, so that's what we're doing.

Mostly still the same but; free bar, not worried so much about guest list; paid for everyones accmodations, live band, bought the bridesmaid dresses from bridal shop.

I honestly don't think I would have done anything differently. When someone asks me how much my dress is, I feel much prouder saying "a bargain at £250!!!" than "A grand."

I sort of feel a sense of accomplishment at finding stuff so cheap! lol.

I'd invite aunties/uncles/cousins to the whole day instead of just the evening reception, i'd get married sooner and we'd go on honeymoon afterwards as we can't afford to go anywhere after our wedding at the moment !

Funnily enough me and OH were talking about this the other day in a "would we change anything if we won the lottery" type scenario, we would still keep the venue that we're having but would pay for everyone's accommodation and have a free bar and I love flowers so would have loads and loads more of them, a very extravagant cake and we'd get everyone amazing favours and gifts and I'd pay for my mum's outfit too. It would also mean we could definitely have fireworks as we haven't booked those yet as waiting to see if we have anything left from the budget to get these towards the end. Ooh and I'd also fly Michael Buble in to sing!...Apart from that I'd change nothing! ?

I would also bring the date forward. I'd have a string quartet, a steel band, a harpist and a band for the evening. I'd probably offer more of a choice on food for the guests (at the moment we're having what myself and OH love but I'm sure others won't like it as much) and I would definitely have a free bar.

We would have a different venue as the one I really wanted we couldn't afford (although ours is lovely). I wouldn't have a different dress as I love it, everything else would prob be the same apart from we would have a free bar.

I would keep most things the same so far but I would pay for exclusivity at our venue, book out all of the rooms (not necessarily pay for them all but I guess we would it we're talking millions!!!). I would hire an A-Team van for OH as a surprise (I'm currently looking into this anyway!!). Hmmmmmmmmmmmm not sure what else!!!

It would depend on how much money we're talking... but,

Pay someone else to do my invitations... I am FED UP of them!

I would pay for flights and accomodation for all our guests.

Got married in 2011 rather than waiting until 2012.

I would hire an events company to decorate the venue to within an inch of it's life, have a made to measure dress and free bar.

I would get married at Hever Castle, by the lake and banning tourists for the day. Me and boy spent one of the surprising hot days there in the summer and loved it and the romantic day Smiley smile And to make the most of the venue guarantee sunshine - you can do that with lots and lots of money right?!

Second the Michael Buble to Smiley smile

If we're paying for sunshine I'd do that! I think we'd mostly change the things other people are having to pay for - love our venue and wouldn't change that, I guess there may be a nicer dress out there somewhere if money really was limitless but I do love the one it have - it would be things like guest's accomodation, the bar, i'd love to be able to pay for the whole of my hen do as I know a lot of my friends have more important things to spend money on next year, etc.

If money were no object I would have kept it as a bank holiday weekend and made it into a proper 3 day affair, hiring a big grand old house and hosting a weekend party. Dinner on the friday evening for our two families, then on the saturday i would have hired the papakata people to come and put up their amazing teepee style tents in the grounds for our wedding and reception which would have live jazz music, lots of fairy lights and fresh flowers and candles everywhere, a lovely rustic feel to it with afternoon tea and then evening bbq (we're having the tea and bbq anyway!). On the sunday I would have hosted a cocktail party to round off the weekend.

What we're having now won't be too different really. Its in a country house hotel and we're having afternoon tea reception followed by bbq and party in the evening, with a DJ instead of live jazz but he will play almost anything we want so thats fine. On the sunday my mum wants to host an 'open' house for whatever friends and family are still hanging around. Its not that different, just we can't afford to spend a fortune on it all.

Or another possibility would have been flying all of our family out to southern italy for a weekend to have a fabulous wedding weekend with a traditional rustic italian feast. but none of the older guests would have wanted to go abroad anyway so it doesn't matter.

I think we'd keep pretty much everything as it is so far but I would add a chocolate fountain and a videographer.

    OOh - love this!

I have too many ideas that I decided don't suit what we're going for. A 1920's themed wedding, with a bespoke dress, set designer, amazing modern era venue, jazz band. OH in a vintage-style tailored suit, cocktails in martini glassess.

Or a castle in Ireland, on a lake in County Kerry. Exlusive use (of course) an Irish folk band and a gourmet fish supper (with Oysters brought over from Galway).

I can think of so many more....

I am pleased that we are having something much more subdued than these. I would wish for/add to what we are doing: 4 Dessy bridesmaid dresses (rather than 1 from high street), Live band, Heaps of flowers and professional decoration service.

We're getting married in Positano and we wouldn't change that but we would pay all of our guests' expenses, first class and 5* all the way.

Exclusively hire Alton Towers for the weekend, get married in the big house and spend the next day with the whole park to ourselves and go on all the rides and stuff! Not most peoples idea of a dream wedding I'm sure!

Pretty much to same but... Design my own dress, free bar, pay for everyone's accommodation and Take That to perform in the evening, infact all day, infact if we're really wishing for stuff I'd probably marry Robbbie instead of MrApples (it's ok, he knows all about it, he can marry Gary Barlow if the opportunity ever arises!!!)

Hmmm i would probably increase my guest list so more people could come in the day, and take out exclusive use of the venue and pay for all the rooms to be booked out for guests, maybe have a band in the evening and fireworks.

Would not change my venue, dress or anything else really, Would pay for BM dresses and accessories. Would put on transport for guests to get to and from home.

For honeymoon would probably go for longer and upgrade to the top villa available!

I'd keep the number of guests and bridesmaids the same but i'd change the venue to Highclere castle and also book a load of swanky accommodation nearby for my guests. I'd also lay on a lot more entertainment.

Not much really. Love the venue, love the caterers, maybe have a more expensive band.

Don't really want "much" more in the way of flowers as I'm not crazy on them and I'm happy with the designs I've seen, definitely wouldn't have a car as it would take longer to get in and out than to walk places.

Major change would be the honeymoon, in an ideal world I'd fly out to meet an "interesting" hire car and spend 2 weeks in the alps walking, driving and staying in nice hotels. Maybe even a bit of summer skiing would sneak in. If budget was truely unlimited, the "interesting" car would be a Ferrari 458, Lamborgini Aventador or possibly the new McLaren. More realistically (i.e. minor windfall between now and then) would be a Lotus Elise or Esprit, although that would mean taking "capsule wardrobe" to a new level.

I'd also have a horse drawn carriage to get me to the church (still use our camper to get us to the reception as OH doesn't like horses), and have a big HM

    Horse and carriage

String quartet playing before and after the ceremony

Having a famous band/group play in the evening ie. KOL

    Open bar

That's it really, I'm quite pleased with the stuff we have planned for our wedding already and don't feel we have had to scrimp on anything really.

Oh, I need to change mine - I love giraffes so I would get married at Marwell, feed the giraffes and have photos taken, do a tour of the zoo for all guests in the road-train. Or, if we are really talking money no object, I would have all guests out on a safari and get married at sunset overlooking the serengeti. Obviously there will be a a lot of safring for everyone and we would stay in a tent village with bbq and champagne every night. There would be a photographer there all day and maximum photos of giraffes!
