Maldives..

Pinky6, 26 July, 2011 at 16:27 Posted on Planning 0 18

Sorry guys, I know this kind of thread has been done to death but I have tried searching and it hasn't really been that helpful.

So I was wondering if you would mind sharing your opinions on specific islands in the Maldives that you have been to and would recommend as I know there are loads.

Also is there anywhere to avoid for any particular reason?

Or even if anyone else can recommend somewhere that's similar, ie- a nice hot, secluded island?

Ta very much ?

Mrs C- That island looks beautiful, it was one that came up on the search I did on Kuoni. Did you just stay for 7 days then? You said you would have liked to have stayed 10 days but was that because you needed longer to relax from all the travelling? Due to work we can only for for 7 or 10 days.

Sara- Jane- Is that price for 1 week or 2?

It was amazing... it's Kuoni exclusive in the UK.

Yeah, we really would have liked to have had a few days to come down after all the travelling we did in Sri Lanka to enjoy Kuramathi fully and it was just amazing, the food was lovely, the views amazing, the snorkelling fabulous...

I would go back there in a shot.

Don't book direct through Kuoni though as its more expensive - we booked through Tropical Warehouse (Blue Bay Travel) and they were miles cheaper even though it is still a Kuoni holiday.

    Hiya,

It really on what time of the year you are going as to the prices. But we picked our honeymoon before the wedding date and wanted to go 5* and spend £8k - best seasion Nov-Apri - we booked our Feb wedding.

We went to Veligandu 5* all inc, 2weeks water villa with outdoor jacuzzi - it was amazing and worth all the money £7.5K we went with First Choice and upgraded flights too. there are only 70 villas on the island and we hardly saw people the whole time it was true bliss.

Depends on the experience you want - the girls that worked in the spa preferred Meeru for more people, but that is double+ the size, and you can cycle around the island - but we wanted the quiet, get away paradise island. You could walk the length in 10 mins! I would go back in a heartbeat

Sara Jane, can I asked who you booked with? That seems really reasonable! Is that all inclusive too? Briefly looked at Virgin for Indian Ocean islands, and they all seem to be half board and we would much rather know that everything is paid for in advance...

We're going to Kuredu mainly because it has a golf course and my OH is obsessed with golf! Can't wait it looks lush ? The plan is to relax and do bugger all because we're doing lots of trips in Sri Lanka in the first week of our honeymoon x

Kuramathi for us as well - can't recommend it enough. We went for 10 night and had a fantastic time, would go back every year if we could afford it!

Any questions about it give us a shout!

We booked through Kuoni as we didn't know about Tropical Warehouse and on arrival got bumped up by about 5 grades of accommodation, which was a nice suprise and I think not something people got if they booked through Tropical Warehouse (could be wrong here!)

We're going to Meeru Island at the end of March/ begining of April for 1 week. We chose it because it had the accommodation we wanted (jacuzzi water villa) for the best price and had great reviews. Our's is booked thrugh Kuoni and is costing just over £4k. Can't wait, this time in 8 months we'll be there! x

Thanks for all your replies, sounds like we have got a lot to choose from. At least I have a bit more of an idea now, going to go into a travel agents just to get bit more of an idea on prices and the accommodation etc.

1 more question though... someone told me that June (which is when we would be going) will be crap weather. Can anyone verify this?

    Cheers

I know that Nov-Apr is the best season so we picked it to go during that time.

May-Sept is classed more as "wet" and it can be very wet - someone will hopefully advise if they've been out during June - Obviously the price will go down during this time anyway (low season)
