Money money money

Storky, 12 July, 2011 at 16:41 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 47

As this has been such a big topic today, here are a few more questions:

1 - who earns more - you or your OH?

2 - What sort of gap is there between your earnings? % or £.

Entirely up to you if you want to answer and if you do, how much information you give.

Can you tell I'm bored this afternoon?!

P earns twice as much as I do and we have pretty much maintained this throughout our relationship. Hence him paying the huge mortgage / food costs and me paying the bills!

I have always earned more, and currently 100% more as OH is retraining and starting up self employed.

    I do, by about 2.5 x

I couldn't care less and he pretty much accepts that's how it'll always be but I think it does dent his male pride a little if he thinks about it too much. Fortunately he doesn't seem to think about it too much ?. Not sure what the factor will be from here on in since he's pretty much out of work at the moment (2.5x was based on his last salary and we have no idea what he'll be able to get in this job market)

Can you tell I'm bored too with my speedy reply?!

H earns more than me - almost exactly double! Is that 100%? (The fact I don't know this perhaps shows why he earns so much more!!)

2 - About £500 a month more than me plus he gets quarterly bonuses which are about equivalent to half a months wage if everything is passed and ticked. I work for the NHS ,bonuses! he he not on your nelly.

    Lamby - 100%

Good to see some of the gals out earning their menfolk. I don't think it matters either way if the balance works for the couple but from a female perspective it's always good to see.

I think my husband might out earn me this year, unless a couple of deals come in and then I win!

My OH earns more than me.

I'm a SAHM, so he earns 100% more than me.

I'm salaried and OH is a profit sharer, so in good times, he earns more than me and in bad times, he can earn the same or very slightly less than me, but that's rare. In good times, he earns about 10k p.a. more than me.

Haha H does now but I earned £35k more than him when I worked, much to his dismay (bearing in mind he worked in the midlands and I worked in London so there was bound to be a gap!)

You didn't answer your own question CB...

This is a good point actually - my friend is the main bread winner and will have to return to work after 6 months post baby as they rely mainly on her salary for the mortgage.

Obviously this wouldn't always be the case though, if the man still earnt well and they had a lot of savings, but this isn't the case with my friend and she wishes it was the other way round.

    I did, Rachel!

He's on to out-earn me this year if I don't finalise any more deals this year. If I do, I could out earn him by a penny or an awful lot more. Mine's very difficult to quantify.

There's about 2-3k difference in our earnings, with me earning more. OH is at the top of his Band now so won't get anymore, whereas I'm at the bottom of my band (2 bands higher than OH), and each year I get an increment

I earn more, but not enough more to challenge his masculinity Smiley smile Maybe 10%, not sure of his salary. This does not mean I contribute 10% more to the joint effort Smiley smile

H earns more than me, partly because he's full time and I'm part time but also because he's been with the same company for almost 10 years so has had a lot of pay rises through that and he's also accrued other benefits like extra holiday time. Also my earnings are a combination of basic rate and commission, so my monthly take home pay varies by a few hundred pounds each month if things are very good or very quiet at work! On average, H takes home about twice as much as I do.

We're thinking about me handing in my notice and being a SAHM for a while though because childcare costs are absolutely crippling us and the arrangement we had sorted out for the summer holidays has just fallen through so we're a bit stuck! It would also give me time to work on our internet business, which would be very handy!

My b2b earns nearly twice as much as I do, but that's because she works in the financial sector and I work for a charity.

In practical terms, when children come along, it's more likely that it'll be me that stays home to look after them as it'll mean less of a drop in our combined income.

I have never been in a relationship where I have had a partner earn more than me....says alot!

I earn more than MrMini- by £7k a year. Coupled with the 1/3 of his take home we give his ex it means I pay for everything [wedding included!]

It does shift the power balance as any descions made in the household are done by me as utimatley- I pay for it.

I earn about £6K more than my OH on our main jobs, but we both have second jobs (more like paying hobbies). I can earn up to £1000 a year with mine, He can make £5-10K in a good year.

We earn roughly the same, but cirucmstances are different. I have debts, car payments and rent and bills to pay out of my salary. He has no debt, only pays a minimal amount in rent to his parents and some child maintenance (sp). So he has more disposable income and a good fair bit of savings - I have neither.

Mr Kooks earns more than me but only by about £200 a month as I also have a part time job to top me up!

He is massively under paid though for what he does so hopefully he's due a pay rise soon!
