I have them on all the time so no different to me!! if you have nice nails theres no need to hasve acrylics...you can have gel put over your nails for the day, strengthens them, gives them a nice finish and makes them stronger so no chance of chipping during the day!

Think im just going to have a manicure. Im the same as you, I cant do anything with fake nails on!! Lose complete function of my hands!!

They do look nice though, especially if you have horrible nails like mine. Too much time spent with horses and doing silly outdoorsy sports!

My friend got married 2 weeks ago. she had lovely nails but decide to have gels because she didnt wanna risk them chipping or breaking. But you would be fine with a normal manicure, just something to consider.

I just cannot get on with false nails, so I plan to have a gel manicure instead - this lasts for 3 weeks. You have to go and have it removed at the salon, but it should last right through to the end of the honeymoon. I'm going to start going a bit before the wedding, to give my nails a chance to grow - they always break!

It depends entirely on the state of my nails. For the past 6 months i have had beautiful non-chipping/splitting/breaking but recently one by one they have gone and im left with horrible nails so im just praying they will be fine by the time next year comes around. If not i will have really short nails put on as the others have said i cant hold or do anything with falsies on.

Normal Franch manicure the day before the wedding for me. I've only used falsies once and I had them on for 10 minutes before I realised I actually couldn't function with them. Plus I'm clutzy so there was a good chance I'd have taken my own eye out before I even got to the end of the aisle.

Something simple with my own nails, I suspect. I hate the ones that look really fake and in-your-face. It's the really long white tips that does it. Makes me feel a bit queasy actually, but then I'm a bit odd like that!

I think I'll be having falsies, i have horrible nails and i want something pretty for the pics. I did have them years ago but them moved into a more hands on job so I didn't want to break them or catch them on anything Smiley smile

I just did my own in the end. I made sure they were neatly filed and just added a coat of clear varnish I think, or it might have been french manicure pink, I can't remember!!

I'm not keen on fake nails, because most of the time they look really fake to me, I can spot them a mile off and I always cringe at them. They always look to me like a piece of a margarine tub glued onto your nails.

But saying that I have seen some professionally applied ones that are very, very good. The arcylic is very thin, so it doesn't look stuck on, and then they further blend them into your cuticles with wax? or something anyway. I guess you'd have to ask at your local salon.

If I had to have them on a day as special as my wedding day, I'd certainly go for them.

Having had (natural looking) acrylics once before, I'd never, ever do it again. It took my nails a good 4 or 5 months to recover form the damage they caused. Yucky.

I've never worn false nails in my life and I want to look like myself on the day so will probably just have a nice manicure. My nails aren't too bad but they are prone to splitting when they get longer so I like the idea of the strengthening gel stuff. My cuticles are a mess though, definitely need a pro to neaten them up. Only had a manicure once before but it was a brilliant experience.

I'm definitely going for gels - loads of colours to choose from although I think I'm going for a lovely, neutral sort of blushy beige colour. I'm useless with a normal manicure - it doesn't matter how long I sit and wait, the minute I move I smudge them. My bridesmaids are in dark blue so they're both going to have dark blue gels which I think will look fab

My friend had french mani gels last weekend for a wedding and they looked great! Really natural and pretty.

Acrylics hurt so I don't want them but need something as my nails are awful!

If my nails arent up to the job then will be getting them. But I am blessed that mine are normally long enough that people think they are fake. Mine will be painted some random bright colour though as that is one of my trade marks and wouldnt be me if they had a french manicure or something on them.

Going to just have a manicure I think. Had a manicure a couple of weeks ago, I have no problem growing my nails but the day before one of my nails had snapped, so they offered to put an acrylic (sp?) tip on the broken nail. I hated it, felt really weird, and trying to take it off today was a real pain.

I am so tempted to go for black nail polish - seeing how my OH has banned me from having a black wedding dress ? Mind you, the purple I had the other week was pretty awesome too. I think it's safe to say I won't be going for neutral, pastel shades...

I've never worn false nails so dont think I will for the wedding but then I am gambling on my nails being ok...

As my dishwasher has recently broken down ☹️ and we cant afford another one until after the wedding, since I have been washing up my nails have really gone horrible and split all the time. I've got some of that stuff to strengthen them which seems to be working but now I'm not sure my nails will be in any fit state for the wedding.

After this thread am I right in thinking gels are better for your nails than acrylics? Might have to have some put on in a few months to practice and make sure I can function with them on for the wedding.

Gosh you really do have to think of EVERYTHING dont you!

    xxx

I'm confused. Is there a difference between gel nail polish and gel nails? Or is it exactly the same thing? I was talking about having gel nail polish, applied to my natural nails, not artificial nails.

The gel 'paint' is still damaging to your nails, just not as harsh as acrylics. The nail can't breathe and will become more prone to splitting, tearing, weakness and discolouration. You should have seen the state of my friends nails after she had a Nails Inc 3 week manicure. Nasty.

I had a standard french manicure with shortish natural tips. They looked pretty but natural. I think acrylics are fine if you normally have them/long nails, but for me I didn't want anything too different from what I normally have - hence the fairly pale fake tan as well.

Really? That bad? Humm.......... may have to re-think that one then! I have never had it done before, but my mum has and seems to like it. Her nails always look bad anyway, bless her, so I wouldn't be able to tell!

I may just have to go for a few regular manicures before hand, and hope my nails don't break/tear. I used to use Nail Magic (I think that's what it was called), which was really good, but haven't seen it around in the last few years. I could only ever find it in House of Fraser.

I'm another one who can't stand acrylics as they look soooooo fake. pink is PINK and white is WHIIIIITE and really clumpy, just ridiculous looking IMO.

They do have silk nails also, bit more expensive than acrylic and gel but more natural looking. I probably wouldn't have these either though. If I've had to have nails done I buy them online and put them on myself. They are nice and short so easy to deal with but not too short they look short IYKWIM. Nice and manicured or I get a design.

My nails have always really bad and break and split at the slightest knock so was really thinking hard what to do as I'm not keen on acrylic nails. Earlier this year my mum suggested taking calcium tablets so about May time I took them for maybe three or four weeks. It took six weeks to see the benefit but they've been amazing and really long for the last three months and I actually have to file them down as they're too long!

I've read recently that calcium supplements may not be good in the long term but taking them for a few weeks has completely changed my nails so I think I can consider gel nails now ? !!

Im going for a good manicure and getting normal paint on my nails. I had the gell type paint a while ago and it wrecked my nails! It was lovely when it was on, but when it started to come off and I had to remove them, it took the top layer of my nails off i think, and they just kept breaking. So Im staying away from that!! My friend had hers done for her sisters wedding with the gel paint, and had the same kinda result. So just be wary of that!!

I'm so glad this post came up as this is something I started debating about as I have short nails as I cannot stand the feel of them when they start to grow and I'm pretty sure I'd hate falsies so I really. Don't know what to do either. I cAnt imagine a manicure looking good on shore nails???

Depends how short - you need some sort of tip, but so long as they're squared off, it doesn't have to be a massive one.

Ive had gel nails for the past six weeks. I have liked them and they have helped my own nails grow but be really careful and dont get them anywhere near any fake tan as it can turn the tips of your nails black!!

I was really careful applying my own fake tan, wearing gloves as usual, but helped a friend spray on some tan before we went out on my hen do and ended up with what looked like really dirty nails on one hand later on!! Ive had to have the gels totally removed and put on afresh! Good grief (think the fact that wed had a few glasses of wine beforehand made me a bit careless - lesson learnt though!!!
