Stress at work

Anne!, 8 November, 2011 at 20:45 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

How do you cope with stress at work? The last week/week and a half has been particularly stressful (over and above my normal levels of usual stress) and I'm struggling to leave it at work and not dwell on it. Any tips?

We have a rule - we can talk about work untill dinner is done, then that is it. That way, I find I at least get time to relax between the stresses.

I also write lists - lots of lists!!! Lots and lots of lists!!!

Anything playing on your mind, talk to OH about, then forget it. You work to live not live to work ?

Bumble, I'm sorry that you feel stressed at work, is there anybody you can speak to that may help alleviate the situation?

Exercise, socialising, learning new things should help you keep your mind off things. I would also suggest yoga, if you haven't already tried it before?

I refuse to think about work after I leave each evening else I would go mad. That said, I often wake up during the night panicking about things.

Do you have any pets? I find playing with my rats very therapeutic.

I don't know Anne, but I could really do with this advice at the moment too. I'm trying to focus on un-worky stuff, like the wedding and trips out, etc

I think some people find it very easy to switch off after a days work, even if it has been stressful, and not think about it until their back at work. Dwellers (like me) find it much more difficult. I find coming home and having a good rant to OH about my day works, I feel like I've got it out my system then I try to concentrate on other things. Maybe watch a film together or do a bit of wedding planning, even going out for a meal or something to try take your mind off it.

Went to Zumba last night which helped a bit I guess, at least it tired me out so I could nod off to sleep,

OH and I generally talk/rant about work when we first get home and then concentrate on other things, usually works ok just not at the moment as I am super stressed,

    Thanks everyone

Hi sange, yes this is in part of the reason I am stressed. I'd already talked to my boss (who is relatively new boss and works 200+ miles away) about it and asked for some extra support, but it hasn't happened (complicated to explain). I feel very out of my depth and having asked for support am not receiving it hence the extra stress. It will pass once this item of work is over, but then again it probably won't as I will be called upon to do this type of work again as the new boss is 200+ miles away.

Guess I need to talk to them about it again, Thanks x

I know how you feel Anne-I got two hours sleep last night as my brain just could not switch off. I've started Pilates and having weekly reflexology which work on the nights I do/have them but get stuck the rest of the week? I know that wine would knock me out but isn't ideal when ttc.

Sange, I tell my boss I'm stressed, not sleeping well etc but I'm not sure what to expect him to do about it-not sure about you Anne but i have a senior management role so I feel there is an expectation that I should be able to cope with it ☹️

Not a good feeling is it x

I get really really stressed about my work sometimes, its really got me down at the moment actually. I have started to get really quite anxious about a lot of things as well, I'm trying Kalms tablets to try and alleviate some of that herbally but of course OH gets a wee rant whenever needed lol

I get really stressed at work and eventually spoke to my manager about it as our department is extremely understaffed and he doesn't help at all. I said it was too much for me and that we needed more people. Now that was 1st August and they have only just been advertising the position and interviewing people over the last couple of weeks. Eventhough my boss knows that I am not coping well, he still does nothing to help and it made me ill a couple of weeks ago.

Have you got anything in writing with regards to you speaking to your boss about it? I put our conversation down in an email and sent it to him - it started the ball rolling at least Smiley smile

    Good luck.

    Jxx
