What do you eat when you're feeling ill

Deedee75, 24 August, 2010 at 11:37 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

I'm feeling particularly rubbish today, I have a feeling I might have hand, foot and mouth from my symptoms, and feel a bit flu like. I'm working from home as I didn't want to risk infecting anyone there, and also I can just rest up here when I've not got much to do.

My mum always says that if you can eat then you can't be ill, but that's never been the case for me, unless I'm really bad and throwing up all the time.

I'm not sure what to eat for my lunch - I'd made my usual salad last night, but really don't fancy that.

So, what sort of things do you usually eat when you're poorly?

Mashed potato as it's my comfort food, sometimes with a bit of mint sauce mashed through it because peppermint is supposed to help with digestion. Or spaghetti hoops. I seem to regress to about 5 years old when I'm ill and just want to sit on the couch wrapped in a blankie and cuddling a teddy bear ?

Not sure I could face potato or spaghetti hoops - I think toast might be the way to go.

I know what you mean about regressing, I lovely getting wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa - just need my mum here to look after me ?

Soup if you feel a bit flu like, with buttered toast.

Obviously cut into soldiers to dip if we're regressing...! ?

    Hope you feel better soon.

    Absolutely! ?

It would have to be tomato soup though, and I don't think we have any.

    Right, buttered toast it is!

Plain pasta with butter and grated parmesan.

That, or the teeny tiny pasta shapes (pastina!) cooked in chicken broth.

And coffee made just with hot milk and cream <-------healthy!!!?

    Hope you're feeling better soon.?

I think i am quite fortunate as i can still eat pretty much anything, although i haven't been really bad for a long time so it might be different. I would go for the toast as well Jxx

Im in the toast camp too, that and crackers seem to do the trick and to drink it has to be original lucozade, however if i am travel sick I always want cheesey wotsits lol! x

Usually I don't eat a lot when I am ill either but I do like a hot bowl of chicken soup (me, a cliche??) Only if someone makes it for me though and I can eat it sat on the sofa wrapped in a slanket. Also it is essential I have a big bottle of Lucozade. I don't know why as I don't drink the stuff any other time. It just seems to be synonymous with being ill in my household!
