Who did you take with you to choose your dress?

mummymrs2b, 4 January, 2012 at 16:14 Posted on Planning 0 38

As title says I'm wondering who other people took with them to choose their wedding dress? Did you take your bridesmaids?? I'm not keen on taking my bridesmaids, would rather just go with my mum but I'm takin mil too. Xx

I would take the people that you feel most comfortable with along, it can be quite emotional and/or stressful. If you don't want your BM there, then don't take them.

I wanted to take mine as I wanted them to feel part of the whole process, they both told me they enjoyed it (they could have been lying!!)

I took two of my three bridesmaids on one trip (the other was invited but couldn't make it) and my mum on a separate one. I still hadn't found "the one" by this point so did another shopping trip myself where I did find it.

I didn't involve MiL at all, and now I feel like a bad daughter in law as OH's brother is getting married and she has done loads of dress shopping with BiL's fiancé. ?

I am not having any bridesmaids as we're getting married abroad. When I go dress shopping I'll be taking my Mum, my brother's girlfriend (she's practically my SIL) my daughter and possibly my Nan if she wants.

For me it was my Mam & Dad, very close to both... and only they have seen my dress, not even going to tell/show my BM's until the day.

Not many secrets/surprises in life so its nice to try and keep a few ?

My mum, one of my BMs, and sister. But only my mum and sister have seen my actual dress in my size. The one I tried was a 16 and I'm an 8 so it'll look completely different on the day and hopefully suprise my BM!!

Mum and I don't agree on clothes at all so I didn't take her to help me choose but did take her after I had chosen. As expected she didn't like it! Never mind, I love it! Took my best friend to a few shops and went on my own to a couple. Not having bridesmaids and daughter who will be FG would just be moaning about wanting to try dresses on for herself!

I've got my first appointment tomorrow - yippee!

I am going on my own as I moved abroad just over a year ago and don't have anybody here I would want to go with. Hopefully the ladies in the shop will be nice and helpful as I've read a few horror reviews!

I will try and arrange a trip back home though as well so I can look with my mum and also (separately) with my 1 bridesmaid and a couple of other friends.

I took my mum when I was initially looking. I then took my sister (CBM) to see once I had bought it. They are the only ones who have seen my dress, as I want it to be a surprise on the day.

I just took my mum with me on each occasion. I only went to 3-4 but found it easier to just get her opinion as I value that, although she just liked every one so wasn't overly helpful Smiley smile

I went with my Mum and one of my bridesmaids on my first shopping trip, and found my dress in the second shop we went to. I was always going to take my Mum as we're really close, but I really wanted a friend's opinion too.

I'm having 4 adult bridesmaids and I didn't want to take all of them as there would've been too many people. They have all now seen my dress though as we went bridesmaid dress shopping a couple of weeks later and we went back to the shop and they were happy for me to try the dress on again.

I had my first browse with my mum and nanna, my mum wanted to buy the 1st one I tried.

I then went to browse a Berkertex sale with one of my bridesmaids, tried on 10 dresses, and spontaneously bought one I loved.

My mum and nanna hate it but they haven't seen it with alterations to fit etc

I took my Mum. For my first wedding I had a dress designed for me and she had no input, and therefore hadn't had the whole dress shopping experience with her daughter. As it happened, she wasn't exactly enthusiastic this time - happy to look in loads of shops, but seemed to think a cream BM dress "would do" and that I should go for simple, cheap things since I was a second time bride. I don't regret it though, at least it's keeping her involved and we had 2 nice days out.

I went (on separate occasions) with, my Mum and Grandma, friends, bridesmaid and on my own.

I actually found my dress when i was by myself, I would actually recommend going alone to a shop as it's nice not to be swayed by other people's opinions. I never took my MIL, it never occured to me.

I took my mum and sister (CB).

Any more than 2 people would have been difficult. I grew up clothes shopping with my mum and sister and have always shopped well together. They are both supportive but honest.

I took just my mum, I wanted as few people as possible seeing the dress before the big day! I know my grandma would have liked to have come and even my BM, I probably would have taken my MOH if she lived locally but she doesn't! She's the only other person besides my mum who has kind of seen the dress (I sent her the model photo of it!) I'm hoping I did this for the right reasons and means there will be more of an 'impact' on the day!

I had one trip with my Mum to get ideas but there is no way I would have picked it without my MOH's opinion too. In the end I invited my other bridesmaid too as I didn't want her to feel left out, and whilst it was a little tricky at first with 3 totally different opinions, when they all saw me in 'the one' and agreed I knew it was the right choice!

Mostly with mum, 2 BMs (my sis and SIL2b) and MIL2b. The occasion that I actually chose my dress though I went on my own, as I had an inkling that it'd be the one, and didn't want to hear any criticisms of it hehe!

I'm taking my mum and my auntie. I'm also thinking of taking my CB but I'm not sure yet as I don't want too many people there ?

Take who you are most comfortable with. I know my mum will be honest with my dress and that's what I'll need ?

Whoever is free when I decide to go - they are busy/live far away/are freaking out about things, so I can't be bothered with working out the politics of who will be upset!! I have preferences - my friend but she has 2 kids but we went wedding dress shopping for her and had similar ideas on styles etc so I know would be good, but she has 2 kids so we will see. I really want to go in a couple of weeks with a bridesmaid whose free but I think i am going to have to take the boy to the venues so we can make that decision!

I went on a few dress shopping trips and it varied from my mum, sister who's my CBM, one of my other BM's as the 3rd isn't local and my future MIL who really appreciated being involved. On the day I ordered it was my mum and sister there which was nice as they were totally honest with me.
