Hi everyone, now that we are htting the one year mark (mine is tomorrow eeek!) I thought I would start this thread so we can all introduce ourseves and our weddings- chances are we will all be going through a lot of the same things at the same times and thought it would be great to share our experiences and support each other through the next year!

So yes hello I am Nikki! Me and my OH have been together now for 7 and a half years and he proposed (as my family and friends would say.. finally!) in february 2012 in mexico Smiley smile

We have done lots of planning so far, all of it very chilled out and no stresses yet......

Our wedding date is Thursday 15th May 2014.

We booked our venue last june, it is a beautiful barn with seperate room for our civil ceremony and accommodation for 60 guests as well. We live in Colchester, Essex and the venue is called Vaulty Manor in Maldon... I will do a seperate posts with all of our flashes together Smiley smile

On the morning of the wedding me my mum and best friend, moh and only bridesmaid Claire will be getting ready in the bridal suite. I've booked Dawn Taylor to do our hair and make up. Will flash my hair ideas seperately too.

The ceremony starts at 13:30. We're wanting it to be kept short and sweet so are not having readings. We are giving notice next week so hope to be a bit clearer about the ceremony soon. I will be walking down the aisle with my dad to Better Together (hawaiian slack key kings version) by Jack Johnson (on itunes if you want to listen) havent completely decided on the other songs yet. There will be 60 guests in the day.

Once the ceremony is over we are providing the prosecco and/or orange juice for the reception drinks, and will be having our photos here. Hopng for nice weather outside of course! Also having canapes. Our photographers are booked - it is a bit of a risk as our bidget was tight, they cost £500 for the whole day and are our age (27) with only about six weddings under there belt (more by next year) but check out the facebook page and you'll see why they won us over, the photos are gorgeous! We've met with them and also really like them too. We want our wedding to be casual with no airs and graces with our guests feeling comfortable and not on their best behaviours, so a chilled couple as our photographers works for us. Here is a link to some of their previous photos from another wedding

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.435756009793409.89096.185021771533502&type=3

So then it's food time! Everyone moves into the big barn room. We have sorted all the catering now too, met with them properly last week - We have booked the Aussie BBQ company and they are doing a big 5 ft chicken, chorizo and seafood paella, aussie steaks, aussie bangers, minted lamb kebabs and halloumi kebabs served with french bread, sauces and chutneys, mixed salad, potato salad and coleslaw. For dessert there is Triple chocolate mousse and fruit cheesecake.

http://www.aussiebbq.co.uk/pdfs/2013/FINALAussieBBQBuffetmenusMARCH2013.pdf

We are providing all our own wine (lots and lots, no rules per person) and having the speeches and toasts first before the meal (my OH has a small speech impediment snd wants the speeches out of the way asap)

We then have a bit of time time to fill and are thinking of doing a pub quiz (h2b is pub manager and it's quite 'us') but nothing set on that yet.

In the evening we will probably invite a further 40 guests ish and we ave booked a guitarist to sing live called Jamie Mcguire and he djs inbetweem we want sets of pop, rock and rnb and hip hop.

http://www.jamiemcguiremusician.co.uk/

We will be serving our cake in the evening on the bar along with a hog roast for our guests around 8:30.

I bought my dress last month too, it is White Rose R524 with a D'Zage belt for £1009.

Our flower ideas are daisies and gysophilia, we are meeting with a potential florist next week.

I've handmade all the save the date magnets and they are going out soon - they are in the colour theme for the wedding green and pinks.

I have bought some cheap little daisies from ebay and these will be tied in daisy chains around the beams in the venue.

I have bought small wicker baskets with candles for centrepieces which I will tie daisy chains round and am thinking maybe wood circles underneath.

Oooh and ordered my veil yesterday from Margaret, I am having a two tiered super soft tulle, elbow length veil with scalloped edges and thin pencil edge. It is costing me £41.28 including postage and a veil hanger. So far cannot reccommend her enough just hope it comes out how I imagine.

So the things left to sort now are:

* Rings (i'll flash some ideas below) going to go to Alba Rose first

* Shoes

* Honeymoon (I was very lucky and won a prize at work.. £5000 holiday vouchers with Thomson! hoping to book up soon, thinking of a safari then beach in mobasa kenya next july)

* BM dress

* Suits (leaving this to h2b so dont expect it anytime soon!!!)

* Make invitations

* Jewellery/ hair accessories/ underwear

* Buy wine/prosecco

* Gifts for family / bridal party

* Book hen do (got the time off work thinking a weekend in Valencia!) then another one local for family too.

There is probably loads more but so far feeling pretty organised Smiley smile

Cant wait to hear all about your weddings too Smiley smile Smiley smile happy planning!!!

We're pretty much sorted on all the major things. I'm still plodding along with the decorations . We still have our honeymoon to book and all the little finishing touches but for now I'm concentrating on getting myself prepared with new hair and beauty routines and a diet which has been starting every Monday for the last 2 months.

Ooh, I wondered if there was a may 2014 thread somewhere as I didn't see it.

I'm date twins with a couple on here, the 17th May 2014, and haven't got many tangibles booked apart from venue and registrar, we go for our notice appointment on the 14th.

We've decided on some intangibles, music for the aisle, down and up and first dance (mostly)

I keep having venue wobbles as their reviews on tripadvisor are less than complementary, but they were so lovely and flexible! Bah!

Also decided on BM dresses, (http://blackbutterflyclothing.com/ShowDetails.asp?id=359) and ordered one as a sample (though now panicked as they have barely any sizes on it now!). Colour scheme is black, white and purple. Been to a couple of dress apts, and another in 2 weeks. Mostly being a ball of stress and indecision, ah well never mind!

This is exactly the same as me! Though I made it all the way to the gym tonight so pretty proud of myself!

Brown eyed gal - we're planning on going to Malaysia for our honeymoon but still sorting out details at the moment!

Lisamshorrock - we are date twins ? sounds like you're further along than us so far...haven't sorted honeymoon, hotels for family or decided whether we're having a florist yet!

I am getting married on 10th May 2014 although I'm quite far on I feel miles behind everyone is talking about lists I'm yet to write one. I have even decided on a hen do, and trying to get the oh to do anything is hard work topping it off with him now braking his finger so hes now got 6 weeks off from wedding preparation. I don't have any motivation to do anything.

If someone fancies writing my list for me please feel free.

Hope your all doing better than me!

I have been engaged since last feb! so we are pretty much done, venue, given notice, catering sorted, cake, makeup & hair, dress, musician, flowers, save the dates, veil, shoes, photographer, honeymoon.

All that's left now is rings, bm dress, suits, invitations, centrepieces and decorations, jewellery, cake topper and make our pub quiz.

Am currently so out of the wedding planning loop though! Havent done anything now for months... need to get my groove back. Have even hardly been on hitched i'm glad this email reminded me I HAVE A WEDDING TO PLAN!! haha!

    Hi Ladies,

Just joining this, love reading everyone's plans. I'm doing a part time degree alongside wedding planning and working full-time so have done most of the planning in the last month and a half whilst I've got a break from studying.

We're getting married 3rd May so I see a few date twins Smiley smile so far we've sorted: Venue, registrar, photographer,my dress, bm dresses, florist, Dj, Band and we've sent out Save the dates. At the moment we're discussing honeymoons; trying to decide between Venice or Tokyo, which are both quite different places Smiley atonished.

Getting really excited now, wish it would be here sooner! but still, lots of planning to do in the meantime.

Nickyh90 - another date twin, 10 May seems incredibly popular next year. Wouldn't worry about plans even if you were starting from scratch today there's still plenty of time to get everything sorted!

Goldpants - glad we've nudged you back into the world of wedding planning ? To be honest, I've spent an awful lot of time on hitched and very little time actually progressing wedding plans (though I have lots of ideas). Thinking that I'll get back into the swing of things by September-ish.

May seems to be a busy month especially the 10th, We had to decide our dates around the football season and it couldn't have worked out better. If wedding planning was worked out on how much time I have spent on Hitched I could have planned this wedding 4 times over lol, I'll be coming to you all for advice. I just need to stay off the buying forum lol. I like the idea of a pub quiz but my parents are paying for our wedding and is very traditional and formal so oh and mum said no! I need some more ideas on what to do during meals to keep adults entertained, to break the ice etc.

    Any suggestions?

    Another 10th May bride here!!!

We've booked the venue, TOG, florist (although haven't made final choices yet), DJ, cake, chair covers, wedding rings and I got my dress a few weeks ago. We also booked our honeymoon to Mexico last week.

We've still got suits, bridesmaid dresses, stationery, hair/makeup and possibly some entertainment to sort.

Time seems to by flying by since we got over the 1 year mark! Love reading all your ideas and where you are up to, reassuring when others are at similar stages to me!

I've actually done a couple of things today! I've ordered my Rachel Simpson shoes and contacted our photographer! She's lovely! She's newly graduated but I'm a great believer that everyone starts somewhere! She studied in Tuscany, it all sounds so romantic!

I've also sorted a date next month to go bridesmaid dress shopping. I've been told that they should be ordered by November latest. One of my bridesmaids to due to have a baby in October so we've decided to go next month as it won't be ideal going when she's full term or with a new born!

    Hi All!

    I don't know about you...but time is flying!! I have 9months & 13days to go!

Booked my invitations yesterday (space) with designer, no idea what I want though! I was hoping to be crafty and make mine but I really don't have the patience for it! Best leaving it to the experts! :-)

Also booked our honeymoon last week...14nights in Kenya inc 2 night safari! Very very excited....not till next October but will be worth the wait! :-)

I do feel organised but time really is marching on and still loads to do! Never mind more weight to lose to fit in my dress! :-)

How is everyone getting on? xx

Hi girls! I cant believe I have only just found this thread.

My wedding is May 10th so hit the 9 month mark today, i popped a thread up earlier of a few of my plans so far.

We have most things sorted, except for rings and honeymoon. We are going to Vegas, LA and Hawaii but waiting for the hotel we want to be released. Our ceremony is in a small village church where both our parents live with a reception at Hogarths Hotel. Our theme is rose pink/vintage I guess is the best way to describe it.

Definately feels like its creeping up fast now!xx

Yay, I can join a month thread!

We have recently booked our wedding on May 17th in Milton Keynes Smiley smile

It's a little worrying seeing what everyone has booked.

    So far we have:

    -Venue

    -Registrar

-A friend to do the cake

    -In touch with a photographer

-Asked my cousin to do the flowers

Yup that's about it! I've got a lot to do!

rachd03 - that's exactly the honeymoon we want! Do you mind me asking who you booked it through? We might cross paths :p

Hi I'm sorry but I just need to rant, we booked our wedding 2 years and 3 days in advance at xmas this yr my cousin n his gf got engaged and decided to book their venue at our venue, 6 weeks before even though they knew our date and where it was, anyway its a package wedding meaning an awful lot will be the same my cousins family is just his mums side and my side is just my mums side so theres 50 odd people coming to both venues not including any friends that we have in common, So I threw a hissy fit and said I was going to change venues but we did have our heart set on that one, as time has gone on we have found another one that we LOVE!!! one problem, the function room isn't built yet, we found the place in January when the owners we're still waiting for planning permission when he said they hoped to have it built by the beginning of August. Anyway that has not gone to plan and I was informed by the owner work was to commence on 5th August however it still hasn't!! I'm getting really concerned now as its a grade 2 listed building so I'm aware there's a lot of red tape. We have exhausted all our options in Scarborough but my OH family is from Whitby. But we are getting married at our local church where we are regular attenders of and it means a lot to me to be married there but it would to much for oh family to drive down to church to then drive back up for wedding reception as its half hour drive, if the road and weather are good!!!! Eek, Any help or advice would be grateful for!!!

    Hi Nicky

Could you look into hiring a coach to and from the church and reception venue half an hour away? We're probably going to do this, and a coach for 75 people worked out the same price as a wedding car for 2!

Nickyh90 - thats a real shame your cousin did that - I would have thrown a hissy fit too! The idea of a coach between them is a good one but I wouldn't worry too much about a half hour drive to the church then back on themselves, on the plus side they'll be closer to home when drinking! Our venue means the majority of people have at least an hour to travel and will need to stay in hotels but we figure most won't mind with lots of notice!

Hi ladies, I'm a newbie on here but I am getting married on 3rd May 2014 so it's 8 months today for me! Have to say I haven't done a huge amount. I've booked my venue, the beautiful Douglas Hotel on the Isle of Arran which is where I'm from. We are having the ceremony and reception there as its easier for everyone who has travelled to keep it in the same place. Plus it's only 5 mins from my parents house! I've booked a friend who is a photographer for the photos but that is about it. I really think I need to find my dress, I've tried some in 2 shops in Glasgow but not found the one yet. Hope it happens soon!

As I still have lots to do I'm loving reading the posts here for inspiration Smiley smile

    Hiya!

I think I'm the first 9th May girl here and you're all making me look hilariously disorganised! Smiley tongue

I *think* we have a venue and are looking to book this week, but other than that all I have is our church ceremony booked (but not the time, order of service or anything, haha!)
We are getting married in the same church my parents were married in, so that's been the only easy part, really

Dress - no idea! Getting it made as I have a friend who handily runs a wedding dress/flower girl business and can help me get it made up in a factory (yay!) but have only tried on 5 dresses so far, none of which really did it for me; my favourite dresses are from the Vera Wang Fall 2012 collection, but they are a teensy bit out of price range Smiley tongue

I'm a jeweller, who STILL hasn't got their engagement ring sorted 6 months after getting engaged! Whoops! Although it's finally being made now (am thinking of posting up the stages of a ring being made, for those Hitchers that are interested in that kinda thing)

Colour scheme: thinking pink and grey as I won't be wearing white, I have pink hair and I have pink and grey diamonds in both my wedding and engagement rings (but again no idea!)

Haven't even sorted the guest list properly - think I may have some organising to do!......

    :-o

Oh I am the 9th May!! and I've pretty much sorted everything!

I'd be having a panic attack by now if I hadn't got those things organised, but I think I'm a bit more highly strung than you by the sounds of things!

All I have left to do (unless i've forgotten something) is:

    Rings

    Flower girl dress

Flowers (no what I'm having just need to order)

    Suit Hire

    Cake (again just needs finalising)

    Finishing off invites

and I think that's still too much! haha Smiley smile
