Hi everyone, now that we are htting the one year mark (mine is tomorrow eeek!) I thought I would start this thread so we can all introduce ourseves and our weddings- chances are we will all be going through a lot of the same things at the same times and thought it would be great to share our experiences and support each other through the next year!

So yes hello I am Nikki! Me and my OH have been together now for 7 and a half years and he proposed (as my family and friends would say.. finally!) in february 2012 in mexico Smiley smile

We have done lots of planning so far, all of it very chilled out and no stresses yet......

Our wedding date is Thursday 15th May 2014.

We booked our venue last june, it is a beautiful barn with seperate room for our civil ceremony and accommodation for 60 guests as well. We live in Colchester, Essex and the venue is called Vaulty Manor in Maldon... I will do a seperate posts with all of our flashes together Smiley smile

On the morning of the wedding me my mum and best friend, moh and only bridesmaid Claire will be getting ready in the bridal suite. I've booked Dawn Taylor to do our hair and make up. Will flash my hair ideas seperately too.

The ceremony starts at 13:30. We're wanting it to be kept short and sweet so are not having readings. We are giving notice next week so hope to be a bit clearer about the ceremony soon. I will be walking down the aisle with my dad to Better Together (hawaiian slack key kings version) by Jack Johnson (on itunes if you want to listen) havent completely decided on the other songs yet. There will be 60 guests in the day.

Once the ceremony is over we are providing the prosecco and/or orange juice for the reception drinks, and will be having our photos here. Hopng for nice weather outside of course! Also having canapes. Our photographers are booked - it is a bit of a risk as our bidget was tight, they cost £500 for the whole day and are our age (27) with only about six weddings under there belt (more by next year) but check out the facebook page and you'll see why they won us over, the photos are gorgeous! We've met with them and also really like them too. We want our wedding to be casual with no airs and graces with our guests feeling comfortable and not on their best behaviours, so a chilled couple as our photographers works for us. Here is a link to some of their previous photos from another wedding

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.435756009793409.89096.185021771533502&type=3

So then it's food time! Everyone moves into the big barn room. We have sorted all the catering now too, met with them properly last week - We have booked the Aussie BBQ company and they are doing a big 5 ft chicken, chorizo and seafood paella, aussie steaks, aussie bangers, minted lamb kebabs and halloumi kebabs served with french bread, sauces and chutneys, mixed salad, potato salad and coleslaw. For dessert there is Triple chocolate mousse and fruit cheesecake.

http://www.aussiebbq.co.uk/pdfs/2013/FINALAussieBBQBuffetmenusMARCH2013.pdf

We are providing all our own wine (lots and lots, no rules per person) and having the speeches and toasts first before the meal (my OH has a small speech impediment snd wants the speeches out of the way asap)

We then have a bit of time time to fill and are thinking of doing a pub quiz (h2b is pub manager and it's quite 'us') but nothing set on that yet.

In the evening we will probably invite a further 40 guests ish and we ave booked a guitarist to sing live called Jamie Mcguire and he djs inbetweem we want sets of pop, rock and rnb and hip hop.

http://www.jamiemcguiremusician.co.uk/

We will be serving our cake in the evening on the bar along with a hog roast for our guests around 8:30.

I bought my dress last month too, it is White Rose R524 with a D'Zage belt for £1009.

Our flower ideas are daisies and gysophilia, we are meeting with a potential florist next week.

I've handmade all the save the date magnets and they are going out soon - they are in the colour theme for the wedding green and pinks.

I have bought some cheap little daisies from ebay and these will be tied in daisy chains around the beams in the venue.

I have bought small wicker baskets with candles for centrepieces which I will tie daisy chains round and am thinking maybe wood circles underneath.

Oooh and ordered my veil yesterday from Margaret, I am having a two tiered super soft tulle, elbow length veil with scalloped edges and thin pencil edge. It is costing me £41.28 including postage and a veil hanger. So far cannot reccommend her enough just hope it comes out how I imagine.

So the things left to sort now are:

* Rings (i'll flash some ideas below) going to go to Alba Rose first

* Shoes

* Honeymoon (I was very lucky and won a prize at work.. £5000 holiday vouchers with Thomson! hoping to book up soon, thinking of a safari then beach in mobasa kenya next july)

* BM dress

* Suits (leaving this to h2b so dont expect it anytime soon!!!)

* Make invitations

* Jewellery/ hair accessories/ underwear

* Buy wine/prosecco

* Gifts for family / bridal party

* Book hen do (got the time off work thinking a weekend in Valencia!) then another one local for family too.

There is probably loads more but so far feeling pretty organised Smiley smile

Cant wait to hear all about your weddings too Smiley smile Smiley smile happy planning!!!

    Hi All,

    I'm getting married May 24th 2014 and can't believe how fast time has flown since getting engaged last October!! I'm trying to get invitations sorted at the moment but although I've seen some I like online, I think I'd much prefer to work with someone on them face to face... If anyone knows of anyone in Worcestershire, let me know!

    I'm hoping to send out invites in January - is that similar to everyone else or am I being early??

    Snap MrsOh, I am also getting married at Notley Tythe Barn. Well that's where my reception is anyway.

    Dress shopping yesterday at The Wedding Factory Outlet was a disaster - I didn't like a single dress although tried some on for the sake of it. LEft feeling really unhappy and doubting my choice that I think is the one. The shop near me only have the one im in love with in a bigger size than I tried on at the NEC so have been panicking that it won't look as amazing and that I'll be back to square one with no dress that I like.

    Welcome to the best month to get married thread MrsOh :p I love those little 'i'm actually getting married!' moments that sneak up on you Smiley smile

    How did the dress shopping go Natalie B? Did you find another 'the one' or is 'the one' still 'the one'??

    I'm still up in the air with my centrepieces.

    I've been having doubts about them (empty glass bottles with a couple of flowers in with jam jars with candles in around them.) It didn't help that at my venue's open day this weekend everyone was ooh and aahing about the fishbowls and tall displays. Now I really don't know what to do! I was just trying to keep it cheap but still pretty.

    I was planning on January invites Penny C and from past comments I think that's a pretty popular idea.

    Every one was getting really stressed about not having enough hotel rooms available at the open day. I think we have more than enough but before I knew it I had my SIL texting and MIL on the phone saying we should complain.

    They have saved us 20 rooms (which they said they would) and it is just unfortunate that they have had a large group booking for that day which has taken up the majority of the remaining rooms.

    Sometimes I think the main reason for wedding stress is family!

    hi Penny, we're getting married the same date as you! We've actually just got our invites, they're written and ready to post. It maybe is a bit early but we have a lot of people on the "well we'd really like you at the day do but we can't afford to have that many" list and we thought if we get the day responses back early then we'd know whether any spaces will open up later for more at the day do. The evening invites are done but won't go out until next year. We did use a lady that we found at a wedding fair and she designed and made them for us, was nice to have them a bit more personal and to be honest it wasn't really much dearer. I live nowhere near you unfortunately so I can't help you on that one but wedding fairs are the place to find that sort of person.

    Nice bunting, Icklefee!

    I'm going to the alternative wedding fair in the 3rd; hoping for some inspiration for invite designs and general stuff - you all seem to be getting well into planning now and it's clear I need to make the final guest list decisions and start thinking invites! Smiley smile

    My ER is FINALLY at the setters and I'm going to get started on the wedding rings too Smiley smile The dress is slowly coming together - tried some amazing Ian Stuart dresses today for inspiration - I LOVE his style! Smiley smile

    Tog pretty much selected now and will be booking this week - going to try a bit if negotiation with him too - it's always worth a shot!

    has everyone else picked their dress now?

    Oh wow!! A venue twin!! When are you getting married again? Are you using their DJ? Have you looked into hotels in the area? Hartwell House seems to be the preference for us but it is sooo expensive. Will be nice to compare notes with another bride who is using the venue.

    Meeting with them this Saturday and need to get a list of questions together.

    I ordered my dress on Friday, I fell in love with it and I CANT WAIT to try it on again. The lady said it should be in by February!! I have also emailed cake makers about quotes for a chocolate wedding cake (H2B dug his heels in an point blank refuses to have a traditional white one) and about to book our tog - so happy and lucky that he was available. Feel like I still have a huge amount to do and already getting fed up with all the ringing round and constant emails.

    We are getting married the 24th May. I'm quite excited to have a venue twin Smiley smile your getting married before me though if I remember correctly. Yep thought it easier to use their DJ - what about you.

    Hartwell House is gorgeous but I can't justify that on the wedding night when we won't get there till late anyway. I'd much rather spend that kind of money another night when we can make the most of it.

    I saw the pics of your dress - they were both stunning! I also ordered my dress on Saturday. Still got so so much to do though. Which TOG are you using? We are using Yellow Door Photography

    Hello and welcome to the newbies. Thought I'd do a post as I'm getting a bit more organised now so I thought I'd post an update. BM dresses are brought, invitations have been started, menus almost chosen and we're sorting suits this week. We're confirming plans for make up and hair at the weekend and we're booking to make our wedding rings in January. Still got to decide on centrepieces but plenty of time for that! I've just done a flash of my plans so far and feeling like it's all coming together finally! Just got to start on a few more of the crafty things like the brooch bouquet!

    Does anyone else feel like they are losing months of their life at a time? I got really excited when I got to 200 days and have now realised it wasn't just a few days ago I thought that, it was two whole weeks ago!!! Next week it's down to under 6 months! eeeeek

    Generally it does seem to be getting quicker but life is so quick now. Mr DCM said we needed to decide whether we wanted to go to his work's Christmas do in December - I replied - haven't we already decided we're not going? He informs me that was last year! Feels like only a couple of weeks ago!

    I think Christmas is going to make it fly by even more

    Life has run away with me a bit recently. Seems like it was only the school summer holidays a few weeks ago and now it's half term. H2B's birthday and two of my children's are between October and Christmas so that always makes time fly. By the time they go back to school after Christmas it'll be down to 4 months to go and time for the invitations to go out.

    That's a good point, every time I look at the price list I feel a little sick, but apparently that's the best hotel to use (as said by H2B). I will be getting married on the 9th so just a little sooner then you (will let you know all about it after the day!).

    We are using a different tog, we saw yellow door at their wedding fair back in September (they had some lovely pictures that seemed to 'pop') but decided to go with one we had found at a different fair a couple of weeks later. Again we are using their DJ as its easier - I had had my heart set on a live band but they'd want to see youtube videos and are a little finicky about noise levels Smiley smile

    Caz1987 - Your doing fine so far, I'm not much further along than you are and i'm sure there are a few more ladies around here that are in the same boat. But welcome anyways Smiley smile

    Save the dates will be sent out in the next couple of weeks and will be followed by full invites in January. This wedding stuff is starting to get ridiculously expensive!

    How did it go yesterday MrsOh. I don't even know what questions I should be asking them....I know I need to get that questionnaire filled in so they can do me a rough quote. Are you local to the barn? I grew up in the area but now live in Nottinghamshire.

    We didn't end up looking at other photographers we just got on really well with Graham from Yellow Door and our daughter seemed to like him so took that as the seal of approval. He also took the most amazing photo of us in his back garden which I just fell in love with.

    This weekend I have ordered bridesmaid jewellery and spotted some bargains and decided I will be getting a ring from Alba Rose custom made to fit my engagement ring Smiley smile so rather excited about that.

    Invitations are planned, just need to get photos for them and give them to my Mum as think she'll be making them. I can't find the link to it but it will be baby pictures of us with Guess Who's Getting Married on the front with our photos in a little window and printed in black and white on see through acetate. We will then use a wedding photo and do something similar for the thank yous. They were really simple and different, I spotted someone selling something similar at the NEC wedding show.

    Really need to get flowers sorted - they are all so expensive though. And figure out what to do for centrepieces. I want something classy and elegant with a bit of bling as thats the kind of theme I am going for and fits with my dress.

    If not you may have to send me a PM with who you are on Facebook and I can try and add you that way. It may even mean being friends for the process of adding you to the group and then deleting you from my friends again. not sure till I try it lol

    IT would seem to add people to a secret group we need to be friends, so I need to add you, then add you to the group and then delete you as a friend.

    Perhaps we could have it as a closed group for a few days whilst people join and I can then change it to a secret group then
