Hi everyone, now that we are htting the one year mark (mine is tomorrow eeek!) I thought I would start this thread so we can all introduce ourseves and our weddings- chances are we will all be going through a lot of the same things at the same times and thought it would be great to share our experiences and support each other through the next year!

So yes hello I am Nikki! Me and my OH have been together now for 7 and a half years and he proposed (as my family and friends would say.. finally!) in february 2012 in mexico Smiley smile

We have done lots of planning so far, all of it very chilled out and no stresses yet......

Our wedding date is Thursday 15th May 2014.

We booked our venue last june, it is a beautiful barn with seperate room for our civil ceremony and accommodation for 60 guests as well. We live in Colchester, Essex and the venue is called Vaulty Manor in Maldon... I will do a seperate posts with all of our flashes together Smiley smile

On the morning of the wedding me my mum and best friend, moh and only bridesmaid Claire will be getting ready in the bridal suite. I've booked Dawn Taylor to do our hair and make up. Will flash my hair ideas seperately too.

The ceremony starts at 13:30. We're wanting it to be kept short and sweet so are not having readings. We are giving notice next week so hope to be a bit clearer about the ceremony soon. I will be walking down the aisle with my dad to Better Together (hawaiian slack key kings version) by Jack Johnson (on itunes if you want to listen) havent completely decided on the other songs yet. There will be 60 guests in the day.

Once the ceremony is over we are providing the prosecco and/or orange juice for the reception drinks, and will be having our photos here. Hopng for nice weather outside of course! Also having canapes. Our photographers are booked - it is a bit of a risk as our bidget was tight, they cost £500 for the whole day and are our age (27) with only about six weddings under there belt (more by next year) but check out the facebook page and you'll see why they won us over, the photos are gorgeous! We've met with them and also really like them too. We want our wedding to be casual with no airs and graces with our guests feeling comfortable and not on their best behaviours, so a chilled couple as our photographers works for us. Here is a link to some of their previous photos from another wedding

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.435756009793409.89096.185021771533502&type=3

So then it's food time! Everyone moves into the big barn room. We have sorted all the catering now too, met with them properly last week - We have booked the Aussie BBQ company and they are doing a big 5 ft chicken, chorizo and seafood paella, aussie steaks, aussie bangers, minted lamb kebabs and halloumi kebabs served with french bread, sauces and chutneys, mixed salad, potato salad and coleslaw. For dessert there is Triple chocolate mousse and fruit cheesecake.

http://www.aussiebbq.co.uk/pdfs/2013/FINALAussieBBQBuffetmenusMARCH2013.pdf

We are providing all our own wine (lots and lots, no rules per person) and having the speeches and toasts first before the meal (my OH has a small speech impediment snd wants the speeches out of the way asap)

We then have a bit of time time to fill and are thinking of doing a pub quiz (h2b is pub manager and it's quite 'us') but nothing set on that yet.

In the evening we will probably invite a further 40 guests ish and we ave booked a guitarist to sing live called Jamie Mcguire and he djs inbetweem we want sets of pop, rock and rnb and hip hop.

http://www.jamiemcguiremusician.co.uk/

We will be serving our cake in the evening on the bar along with a hog roast for our guests around 8:30.

I bought my dress last month too, it is White Rose R524 with a D'Zage belt for £1009.

Our flower ideas are daisies and gysophilia, we are meeting with a potential florist next week.

I've handmade all the save the date magnets and they are going out soon - they are in the colour theme for the wedding green and pinks.

I have bought some cheap little daisies from ebay and these will be tied in daisy chains around the beams in the venue.

I have bought small wicker baskets with candles for centrepieces which I will tie daisy chains round and am thinking maybe wood circles underneath.

Oooh and ordered my veil yesterday from Margaret, I am having a two tiered super soft tulle, elbow length veil with scalloped edges and thin pencil edge. It is costing me £41.28 including postage and a veil hanger. So far cannot reccommend her enough just hope it comes out how I imagine.

So the things left to sort now are:

* Rings (i'll flash some ideas below) going to go to Alba Rose first

* Shoes

* Honeymoon (I was very lucky and won a prize at work.. £5000 holiday vouchers with Thomson! hoping to book up soon, thinking of a safari then beach in mobasa kenya next july)

* BM dress

* Suits (leaving this to h2b so dont expect it anytime soon!!!)

* Make invitations

* Jewellery/ hair accessories/ underwear

* Buy wine/prosecco

* Gifts for family / bridal party

* Book hen do (got the time off work thinking a weekend in Valencia!) then another one local for family too.

There is probably loads more but so far feeling pretty organised Smiley smile

Cant wait to hear all about your weddings too Smiley smile Smiley smile happy planning!!!

...and another 17th May bride here too Smiley smile it's going to fly by after Christmas, so exciting! MrsBeckiW your honeymoon sounds fab, we're waiting to see how much we have left in our budget after we've sorted everything else before booking our honeymoon...so might end up in a tent in the garden haha. Can't wait til my wedding dress comes in ebarton24, I'm thinking i'm going to have to seriously hit the gym after Christmas before the fittings start! We sorted our cake out this weekend and a friend who is also a make up artist very kindly offered to do my make up free of charge just in return for a picture for her website Smiley smile so a good wedding planning weekend!

Hi everyone, thought I would introduce myself here and then get some nifty advice from you all!!

Oh and I have been together nearly 9 yrs now. We knew we never wanted the big white wedding - just not for us, so we decided to elope! We haven't confirmed our date yet but it will be either 6th or 27th May at Chelsea registry. Then we'll hop on the eurostar for a fancy pants dinner in Paris where we start our honeymoon travelling through France for a week or 10 days. We'll have an informal party for family and friends in July.

I'm feeling super behind and unorganised but the new year has given me a kick up the ****!

My question is...are you wearing a shrug/scarf thing? I'm not sure what to expect from May weather and if I should just grin and brave it!

How is everyone getting on with their panning, we can now all say were getting married this year - I personally only have 126 days until 'the' day! Kinda scary said like that when I still have so much to plan.

Everything ground to a halt over Christmas/new year but now back into the swing of things - OH is arranging his suit fitting soon, I think I have found the bridesmaids dresses and have ordered a sample for them to try on and we have finally sent our wording to the invite lady to be made and should be sending them out by end of January.

Next big things to sort are florist, cake and music.

The list keeps getting bigger though.

    xx

Secretlyeloping - welcome! Re the scarf - I'm just going to hope it's warm and if it's not, knock back another glass of champagne to keep me toasty!

Muppet - where are you getting married?

MrsOh I know how you feel, now we're into 2014 it feels like it's really speeding by and the list of jobs is getting bigger and bigger. I'm panicked about getting the invitations sorted in time and arranging all the things that need to be arranged before then! I had a bit of meltdown the other day getting stressed about everything we've still got left to do and Mr DCM came home with a new project plan spreadsheet he'd made so we can plan out all our jobs and plot them on a timeline. Bless him.

Our main stuff is done and even the invites went out in Nov, but my list doesn't seem to be reducing! Lots of little things to do though. xx

Hi All, So this isn't really my first post on this thread but I wanted to keep my identify a bit less obvious due to the nature of the post. I am getting a boudoir shoot done with the lovely Nicola from Daffodil Waves as a suprise for my husband to be that I will have left him to open on our wedding day. However if I can find another two lovely Hitchers to share with me the price comes down. I am looking to do the shoot in April or very early May this year. If anyone would be interested in sharing with me can they please post here or PM me and I am happy to message you back with details and prices that I have discussed with Nicola. Smile https://www.facebook.com/DaffodilWaves?fref=ts http://www.daffodilwaves.co.uk/weddings-photos.html P.S it will be in Birmingham somewhere.

Yeah, I have a new thing to add to my list:

    FIND A BL(*^*^&Y WEDDING DRESS!

The factory now can't make mine in time; having a slight major panic attack. Hopefully my plan b of having it made here will work (SO much more expensive); but it's made everything else seem a little less urgent :/
    Sooo, yeah.

    Bugger.

Hey Lishamshorrock. Where are you staying? We're going to the Vdara and then St James Club. Flying out on the 20th.

I am getting so stressed and nervous now! Time is going quick and I don't know how I am going to get it all done. This was not the plan! I

I'm getting a bit antsy about my dress now. I ordered it on the 31st August so it's nearly been 5 months.

I hope you get your dress sorted alabastamasta!

We ordered our invites yesterday. I am convinced there is a spelling mistake on there somewhere. I still have to order the card so we can make the inserts and then we have to make the invites themselves (I got them as self assembly from pureinvitation)

We've ordered our cake to Smiley laugh It's a lovely lace design and we are having a hidden multi coloured design inside of the bottom layer. I've told her she can do what ever type of multi coloured design she wants so it's a surprise for us to. I did have a mini meltdown after my OH originally sat there saying he hated lace because it looks like old lady doilies. I have a lace dress!!! I convinced him on the cake so hopefully he'll like the dress.

Here's a flash of what our cake is based on

Happy 100 day countdown to all the May 17thers!

I really need to finish those blimmin invites...

I just gave in and emailed the wedding dress shop to see if they know when my dress will be in. Maybe it'll give me the kick up the behind I need to ramp up the healthy eating. I'm exercising like a crazy woman (compared to my usual activity level that is) but I keep spoiling it with the pizzas I keep ordering!

    Hi, how is everyone doing?

Alabasta - any more news on the dress front.

    January was a fab month wedding planning for us. We managed to;

    Get Invited printed and sent

Finalise accommodation (two hotels with discounts and pre booked rooms!)

    Book coaches

    Book cars

OH went for his suit fitting

    Booked florist

And I'm sure I sent about 100 wedding related emails.

Does feel like its taking over our lives slightly, not a day goes by when it isn't mentioned.

Still need to arrange for a cake to be made but we have booked tastings with two suppliers so fingers crossed it'll be ok.

Had a couple of wobbles along the way but the planning has come along so well... feel like I can relax alittle more now.

I've done ok since the turn of the year having booked hen do, ordered wedding rings, finished centrepieces, finished invites, bought another BM dress, bought my hair garland, bought ties for the men, booked photobooth, booked honeymoon hotels, sorted travel insurance.. phew.

But I feel I can't mention it to OH at the moment, I think he's fed up with me bleating on about it but I still feel like theres loads to do.

I'm going to concentrate on make up next, I don't wear a lot usually so won't be using a MUA but I need some decent primer, foundation etc. to last the day.

I've always got something on my mind to do with weddings I just can't help it, getting me down a bit because I feel like I can't keep boring everyone with it but feeling a bit alone and sometimes I feel like I need opinions. I'm glad we're all in the same boat on here though and you ladies have been ever so helpful so thank-you! ?

Sounds like you two are on top of it all!

I just need to get these invites out and I think I'll be happier - yes I know, I keep saying that.

Oh and rings. Rings are making me nervous. And my dress.

My OH goes through stages with wedding planning tolerance.

He has get a temporary management position at work and it is seriously stressing him out. It's left me to plan most of the wedding myself. He's still interested enough to veto anything he doesn't like though!

I am constantly holding back talking about the wedding with the rest of my family. I am very aware that I don't want to annoy them.

We made a bit of a boo boo with our wedding package. We read 70 adults minimum as 70 people minimum. Turns out we are 5 adults down! Time to upgrade a few people from the evening only list.

Problem is there aren't really that many people on our evening only list. I feel a bit sad when I think some people have hundreds of people to invite to a wedding and I am struggling to invite 70.

Our venue is having an open day on Sunday and I am really hoping to go and have just one more look around.

Finally feel ontop of it thb, which is a change as I am normally the one waking up in the middle of the night worrying about the centre pieces or the music...

Mine is the same at veto-ing things. What he doesn't realise is that I spend a long time thinking about an idea, getting it perfect and all the details before putting it to him. So when he veto's it immediately its understandable that I get a teeny weeny bit upset. No? Smiley smile

I didn't have a package to adhere to but I sort of whish I did - have ended up caving in and inviting people who I wouldn't necessarily invite to the ending let alone the day (Great Aunt and her new husband who I have never in my life met but my dad insists its a MUST to invite them). We are looking at 74 people (of those around 9 are under 16 - so children!) We probably have another 20-25 to the evening depending on who shows up...

Good job we have hitched to come and talk about weddings - sure it takes some of the pressure off OH, Friends and Family.

Go to the open day, it'll be nice to see the venue again. Gets you all excited for the day Smiley smile

Hello everyone - I'm getting married May 10th and I don't think I'm doing too badly with the planning. Here's what I have so far -

Venue (fiancé booked this before proposing!)

    Dress

    Menu chosen

    Hotel suite for the night

    Registrar

Loads of forms (albeit not yet filled in)

    Honeymoon booked

Invites sent out beginning of this week

Hmm - thought I had done more than that. Might see what I still have to do -

    Photographer

    My passport

    My shoes and jewellery

    My hair design

Bridesmaid dress and my daughters dress

    My baby sons attire

    Groom and groomsmen suits

    Kennels need booked

Find out what happens during a registrar wedding

    Music

    Decorations

    Cake design

    Make the favours

    Gifts

Games for reception (we have a large lawn area so I'm thinking space hoppers, giant jenga, connect 4 etc)

    Evening invites

    Honeymoon clothes for us both

Ok I'm going to stop there before I start to panic! I did read above someone was going to go to their venue again - I would definitely do that! Our venue is an hour away and I want everyone close (my parents, his parents, wedding party) to see it before the day in case they have suggestions.

Look forward to hearing more about everyone else's Smiley smile

Hi Ladies, i'm also a May Bride but think i'm on my own with the 2nd?

Had an email tonight that my dress has arrived, don't think i like it know though oops suppose i'll find out at the fitting next week. I've also been to see the florist tonight and thats sorted now.

I've still not sent out my invites, i'm waiting for them back from the printer so i can put them together lol

I've got to source candles and pearls for my centrepieces and spray paint the birdcages because there the wrong colour.

BM dresses are being made and they go for there first fitting on the 1st March, suits are organised and paid for they just need to go and be measured.

I've still got all my wedding favours to decide on and make, name place cards and the seating plan to make. I've bought my shoes (in the next sale £5 bargain) still have to sort underwear, veil and any other accessories i need, wedding rings need buying, All the wedding gifts need deciding on and buying, oh and i haven't even sorted my hen dos out yet oops
