I can't make sense of people who believe that we evolved from a lump of snot on the side of a space rock following an explosion caused by a number of substances appearing out of nowhere of their own accord at the right time in the same place in the right quantities... but hey, lots of people do.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that the Christian faith can have such views still. I believed that they were a religion that evolved with the times but kept fundamental beliefs to encourage new followers or to ensure that current believers could work their religion into their lifestyles? the Christian church will allow divorcees to marry in church nowadays so I cannot believe that they would be so callous as to do something like that?

Blimey if that's the kind of thing that goes on, I'm pleased I believe in Santa Claus more than I believe in God.

Talk about going off topic AJ. The OP was asking about pregnancy paranioa- more specifically, if she could be pregnant. She did not start a debate about whether or not it is shameful to get wed pregnant.

I have my own opinions on religion and the religious but I am not going to share them here (only because this is not a theology thread, I don't mind discussing it at all). Neither will I post links to various websites and claim that they are not necessarily what I think.

And a lot of people can't believe that if there is a greater power out there who created human life. Something that's always bothered me is why did this greater power make us so imperfect and give us the free will to believe that they don't exsist? - Give us 10 comandments to live by, then give us the option to not live by them! - Conflicting really.....and very much OT from the OP.

    I shall leave it there!

AJ, if that is there view and you feel you would lose your job, how do they view the fact you have been divorced?

What about the pregnant brides or brides who already have children being unfairly judged?

I don't know anniepie, as it's a religious organisation they do have an exemption from the equality laws by being able to prove a 'genuine occupational requirement' for employees to all be active Christians.

Whether such a case as discussed would stand up in court or not I don't know - but as I said, I'm not willing to put it to the test (but with 3 weeks to go it's not likely to be necessary anyway).

As for being divorced, it was a discussion had at the time, and as I am not a 'front line' employee but purely an administrative person they did not consider it such a problem. Whether or not that was partly because they knew I'd kick up a fuss or not I will never know.

Trickers, do you take offence at everything AJ says? I strongly suspect that you do, just for the sake of it.

I don't think AJ was judging anyone, i think he was stating that in some sections of society a reason to call off the wedding would be if you were having a child before marriage. I don't think AJ has ever once said that YOU should be ashamed of yourself, has he?

Even if I had, it makes absolutely no difference, if the person doesn't feel any "shame" or whatever about their situation, that's up to them, you can't force anyone to feel anything even if other people feel it. Also, as it's unlikely I'm ever going to meet many, if anyone, from here in real life why should my opinions bother anyone anyway?

Ok, who else would you like me to 'Target'?

Dear anyone else who takes constant offence at anything said by Aj, do you take it personally on purpose? Has anyone here been personally judged or 'targetted' by AJ? Would anyone like to make any further complaints about AJ's personal views that may or may not have been expressly directed at them?

    ALL are free to reply.

    That ok for you Trickers?

I can see from the thread AJ that you have tried to provide an opinion (which you are perfectly entitled to do), and have perhaps been leapt upon a little for doing so. You were correct in saying that some (I would think now a small minority in this country) might think it shameful. BUT for what it's worth to the OP, there is nothing at all wrong with being a pregnant bride IMHO, and I'm sure the majority of folk here will agree, as this thread is demonstrating.

However, as a scientist I can't let this ridiculous description of evolution/the origin of life pass. Whether this explanation is something your pastor / religious text of some kind has provided with you or if it is your own 'ironic' take on the current theories of the origin and development of life that you snigger with your buddies at work about. it is important that peoples minds are not poisoned by this simply ridiculous anti scientific twaddle.

There is vast amounts of evidence pointing to evolution occurring now, and having occurred. There are missing link fossils, there are things inside a body that were clearly not 'designed', and as a DNA based scientist I could show you some of the most convincing evidence yet. I don't want this to turn into an anti religion/pro evolution fight so I won't go into details. As tempted as I am I won't post this to reddit/atheism and turn it into a flame war with people who know far more about the subject than me, but please I implore you, read about the theories and learn about it from the scientists, not a religious take on the theory, which will by its very nature be biased. Please don't believe the propaganda that there is no evidence, especially that which says there is evidence pointing the other way from the creationist 'scientists' in the US who seem so prolific at the moment.

It is both beautifully simple and at the same time IMHO a beautiful way to see life.

If you haven't already read or watched these: I wouldn't recommend Dawkins newer books as he clearly has other agendas other than just describing evolution, but some of his older works are fantastic, I'd also recommend you watch the recent Attenborough programs on the origins of life for a great layman's intro.

If you or anyone else does want to know more about it there is a wealth of knowledge about how the theory really works out there on the web, let alone books, or even your friendly local geek.

So please, feel free to offer your opinion, but don't post wild inaccuracies like this that might influence other people.

    Thanks,

My awesome OH has been on here for a while in preparation for our wedding next year (I won't reveal her name so she doesn't have to suffer the shame of marrying a geek like me ?). She alerted me to the post and I couldn't help myself.

.....She puts up with my rants a lot, she has the patience of a saint.

... oops, did I come on too strong for a first post? I was only here for vows ideas.... ?

So you sign up just to post this. You shouldn't have wasted your time.

Your theories are just that - theories.

I'd much rather go with "God said... and it was".

Well there's two options at the end of it, really.

Eventually, we will both die. That's a fact.

We will either be dead, that's it, know nothing about it, end up decomposing and we'll never know whether we were right or wrong.

Or we'll be standing in front of God finding out whether we were right or wrong.

And if God's the forgiving, benevolent chap he's cracked up to be then the fact that I have lived my life in a good way, caring for others, loving and being faithful and law abiding should be more important than whether or not I believed in his existence.

D@mn, I didnt want to ge caught up in this debate!

You know, it never fails to amuse me how people can say "How do you know God exists? There's no proof" yet when you ask them how they can be sure God does not exist, they have no proof either yet don't question that.
