Hey everyone
I am thoroughly enjoying this site and seeing everyone's ideas - I was just wondering whether there were any other South Devon brides out there! Feel like I am the only one ?
Due to get married 14th September 2013 - and I can't wait! ?
I think if your dad reckons he is good to go then you should go for it. Or you could maybe keep the sets a bit shorter and see if you can get a DJ for a couple of hours?
We need to give notice after 14th September so thats next, then its flowers and cake I think. After that there isn't much else I can do until after christmas!
Not having a honeymoon until 2014 so don't need to worry about that yet! ?
We're invitation shopping in September, which probably means we should firm the guest list up. Not that I don't have bags of time - I am just anticipating designing the invitations, making a couple, getting bored, taking some time out, getting bored again... That'll probably keep me busy through to March (it isn't a big wedding, I just know what I'm like!).
We're not honeymooning until 2014 either, the wedding is costing enough. I might start stock piling things soon though, like mirror plates if I can get them in sales.
Where are you looking at for honeymoon? We're probably going to go back to Tenerife (get a suite though).
Have swiped a couple of ideas from brides on here for invites..shhhh...don't tell them! So I know what I roughly want, just got to get my sister to make them!
I think we are looking at Florida in March - have always wanted to go and I think I have managed to persuade OH! We have 8 months to save after the wedding so should get a nice break ? I do love Tenerife though, in fact I love holidays and anywhere hot would probably do me just fine!
Have you managed to suss out a rough guest list yet then? I found that the worst bit! Started with a lot of names and then culled like mad lol.
I am in a bit of a lull at the moment and not really feeling weddingy - think its a case of not sure what to do next, if indeed anything does need doing.
So do you know what you are having centrepiece wise etc?
That's good! I have got some inspiration from here too, and been pointed in directions for things. Plus good old google has been really handy!
Florida will be brilliant! I've not been, but OH has and he loved it. We'll go over as some point, as my best friend is marrying an American and moving out there, so we'll probably stop off at places and do some sight seeing.
We have a rough guest list together anyway, and we're not in a massive rush to get it all sorted, but I'd like to make some more tweaks to it. Mum has asked for several great aunties and uncles to be there, who I haven't seen for over 10 years and don't know I'm engaged. Conversely, OH's mum has hardly asked for anyone, so we need to trim my side back (which works well, as then we can have more of our friends rather than silly family obligations). I am not looking forward to having that conversation with Mum though. But then, if she wants them there that badly, then she can pay for them, as harsh as that sounds.
Centrepieces I have a couple of ideas on - thinking hurricane lanterns on mirror plates with candles and pebbles in them. I think that'll be nice, but need toget some stuff to play around with. I think The Range is going to be my best friend for this! I am going to shop around though, and also see if anyone has anything for sale on here nearer the time. What sort of thing are you looking at?
Not got a scoobie to be honest! I think I am going to go for the mirror plates with round bowls and a couple of flowers floating in them but I am really not sure, Centrepieces are probably the one thing I haven't really researched or looked at pics of, thinking maybe I should!
There is a Range just round the corner from where I work so I too may be using that as my inspiration! Had no idea they were so cool. We also have a Dunelm which may yield more ideas - methinks I have a lunchtime research project coming up.......
Just wanted to say I have just booked my DJ - wahoo! Was suffering a little this weekend from wedding blahness but I am happy to say I have recoved my wedding mojo.....?
Hello! Whereabouts in Devon are you from? Wow getting married in Greece will be amazing - I will have to let you know how Woodbury Park goes ? sure you aren't missing out though!
Are you honeymooning there too or somewhere else fantastic?
Just wondering how you were all getting on and whether those who were looking at venues had found their 'one'? Am bouncing around as I have passed the year mark (admittedly only just but still lol......)!
And also bumping this thread just in case there are any other devon brides out there ?
Looking for some recommendations really, I'm getting married in June 2014 so a long way off but living in Southern Italy where the dresses are ridiculously expensive.
My parents live in Totnes and so was hoping to make some appointments in December when I come back at Christmas to do my first dress look.
Can anyone recommend any good dress shops in the area, preferably which have a wide range of prices!!! I tried googling but would rather have some personal recommendations!
I got my dress from Rossetti Brides in Maidencombe - they have all sorts and loads of ranges at all different prices. I would suggest you also go to the one on the plains in Totnes (name escapes me at the moment!) as the lady who runs it is amazing and you have the most fun trying on dresses. Unfortunately they were a little out of my price range but the experience is great!
Can't recommend many more unfortunately as found my dress quite quickly! La Bella Bridal and Se Marier in Exeter are supposed to be quite good, as well as Serendipity in Newton.
Hope this helps! Are you getting married in Italy or back in England?
Oh I was going to ask how you were getting on. I had a works Christmas party at Dartington last year, the place is amazing! Food was also lovely and the staff very friendly.
What did you think of the other places you looked at? None rocking your world obv!
Oh thats such a shame! I am sure you will find a venue that makes you all go 'ooh' but if you don't then I think you will have to go with your fave and hope they come to love it like you do.
Oh wow to the brooch bouquet! I am so envious of all you creative people, bet it will look lovely. I have seen some amazing ones on here and on FB.
I was planning on going to the Sandy Park one but I am in Cornwall at the weekend so have to hang out for the Westpoint one now. Went to one at the Passage House on Sunday, was a bit lame to be honest but I got some centrepiece ideas.
I can't believe I am past the one year mark, its so scary how fast time is going! But so so excited.....!
Haven't really done much for a few weeks, been taking it easy and dealing with OH crisis' so not been in a weddingy mind lol. Got my free vista STD magnets through the other day though so was a bit excited by that, and also some freebie T-shirts. Sad but enjoyable!
What about you, how you going on? Got any ideas I can pinch ? Soon be at your one year mark won't you - or have i got that memory completely wrong!
I went to the one at the Southgate and didn't think too much to that either to be honest. It was very salesy towards getting you to book there (I personally didn't like it much - looked a bit bland for want of a better word), and there weren't all that many suppliers.
Yay for less than a year! I'm not too far off ticking over a year now - 2nd November will be a year to go!
I don't think I have many more ideas at the moment. We're in a bit of a lull really - I have ideas sorted for things like brooch bouquets, and I think we're sorted on what we want for centrepieces, but I'm putting off stock piling anything at the moment just in case I get inspired elsewhere. I am hoping that our vicar will be in touch reasonably soon to let us know the costs for getting married in church next year.
Did anyone go to the wedding fair at Sandy Park at the weekend? Mum and I did. I thought it was better than the one held at the Southgate in March/April. I got some great cake ideas and also met the Smooch lady, who is actually probably as competitive in price for my ring as a couple of online suppliers. I am not sure about OH's ring though.
I also had a good look at MUAs. I have to admit, I wasn't too impressed with one of the more well known ones - the lady was quite pushy and very salesy (I don't respond well to that). Apparently, my date would be taken up quickly, so I'd need to book soon (November 2013) in order to secure them. She also got a bit funny about a comment I made to my mum (not to her) about one of the brides in her portfolio (make up was a bit too heavy for me personally, though the bride did look lovely - I just don't wear much make up normally anyway). Needless to say, I don't think I need to worry about the date being taken with them. Another couple of them were lovely though. I do actually have my MUA sorted anyway, but I wanted to have a mooch.
I've said to OH we need to book the Smooch lady for an appointment at some point in the not too distant future.
I wanted to go to the Sandy Park fair but I was away last weekend, gutted I missed it. Still at least we have the Westpoint one to look forward to, v v excited about that.
Superduff Woodbury Park has a stand at Westpoint and you can get your make up done for free as a trial (I know you said you were sorted but may be worth a go!) My brother is working the stand on Sunday so hoping to get some inside goss! Also Woodbury is having an open evening with the rooms all set out properly - think its the week after Westpoint but waiting to get it confirmed. Who is your MUA out of curiosity, am trying to find one as quite pants with make up but I don't know who would be a safe bet?
Is everyone going to Westpoint on the Saturday or Sunday?
Oooh I didn't know about that! If you hear of the date, please can you let me know? I haven't had anything from Lucy to say about it, and I don't want to pester her (feel a bit silly emailing her with 13 months to go!).
I wouldn't mind a bit of a make over to see what I like, so might well make use of it at the show.
I'm using Sarah Cliff at Topsham Beauty. She's brilliant with all my waxing/manis/facials and does make up too, plus I'm really comfortable with her which is important to me. She knows my skin well and knows what I like, so I asked her as soon as I got engaged! lol! She showed me some pictures of peope she's made up before and it looked really nice and natural and photographed well.
I am having my hairdresser do my hair, but I can see the benefit of having a MUA and hairdresser in one!
Oooh I am feeling all excited about the wedding show now!! Yay!!
Superduff (and anyone else thats interested!) Woodbury Park open day is 27th Oct. Not sure on times yet but hopefully they will have the info at the show this weekend.
Can't wait for the wedding show this weekend, so excited! Getting there as soon as it opens so i can have a proper mooch.
