No doubt most of you will be aware of the troubles in Tottenham following a police shooting on Thursday which has spread throughout London over the weekend.

As it seems to be affecting more and more of London (including the area where I live) I thought it might be worth creating somewhere we can all check-in and make sure we are all ok.

David Cameron needs to get back and put some new emergency laws through and the police need to be given more power.

Sod the 'human rights' fans, what about the rights of the innocent people that are suffering as a result of these animals.

I am speechless that this is still going on, someone has to do something before innocent people get killed.

? I agree with all of that. Cameron needs to get back here and show some support if nothing else. Actually scrap that, he can roll his sleeves up like he is so fond of doing and go and be "Dave of the people" and sort it all out with a good old chat.

Really sorry to hear about your friend, CB. Hope that she is safe and has somewhere to go to.

I'm seeing lots of fb updates from people who either can't get to work (in hospitals!) or to buy food because they're not safe to leave the house and public transport is not running. So far I'm doing fine, but I'm glad I'm not working in Croydon or Lewisham (did one year in each of them recently) any more!

It's just terrifying to see this happening in our country. Can't believe how much flak the police are getting for this - it's the criminal hooligans who should be condemned.

It's like I've suddenly moved to Beirut or Kabul or somewhere like that - this is not the London I know.

So sorry about your friend's flat CB - I just don't know what to say.

Shouldn't we be getting the army in about now, to give the police a hand?

Lovely aerial shots of Croydon now. Can hear the helicopter from our flat. Just glad we don't live above a shop or anything as them seem to have been targets for now. Awful stuff.

I don't comment on OT often but this thread led me to today...

Hope your friend is ok CB.

They're starting up here in Birmingham City Centre now. They shut the Bullring shops an hour early to move them on, but this has just made it worse. I can't believe this is happening. Shocking.

I really hope everyone is okay.

I am getting so angry sitting here watching Croydon go up in smoke - how many body miles away is Hackney and what has it got to do with Croydon. These mindless thugs who think they are owed something and can just take stuff and set peoples homes and shops alight are just despicable. My mum and sister work in Croydon and also live in South Norwood!!!! Apparently it is now kicking off in Clapham also with looting etc. This country is in an economic crisis and they go and do this which will costs us all.

I take my hat off to all the emergency services - however I think it is time to teach these kids a lesson, bring in the army with tear gas and water cannons and see how many are then left on the streets at the end!

Just had my poor mum on the phone in tears as the big Reeves old building on Reeves corner in Croydon has been set alight!

    Aarrrghhhh!!

Hope everyone's family and friends are ok. My best friend lives in one of the areas affected but luckily she is away on holiday this week so I know she's safe. Can't imagine how scary it must be having someone you love involved in all this.

Where is your sister Sange - to be honest she is most probably safer staying where she is as you may get caught up trying to get to her.

    Hope she is okay.

Amazing video of the furniture shop (that's been a family business on that site for over 100 years) burnt to the ground tonight at Reeves Corner, Croydon.

You have nothing to be ashamed of, the idiots doing this are the ones who should be ashamed, not the good people of Croydon, who VASTLY outweigh the idiots x

I cannot believe this is happening in a so called civilised country. It's totally heartbreaking that it's came to this.

It started in Bristol last night too. Helicopter was overhead for a few hours.

Absolute disgrace, what is the point in smashing up your own Country?

I actually just do not get why they are doing it?! It doesn't make any sense and it's so random.

Just hope they get bored soon and it stops ASAP

I couldn't take my eyes off the news channels last night. Absolutely abhorrent that people have lost their livelihoods & homes because of mindless yobs. I think it will get worse before it gets better. There have already been incidents around here.

I'm so far removed from the whole thing and it's unlikely to spread to here but have been watching on the news channels - absolutely horrifying and thoughts go out to everyone in the affected areas (and those with friends and family there). CB I hope your friend is safe and that the damage isn't as bad as feared.

Watching that shop go up in flames yesterday and having both brothers who owned it speaking on the TV was heartbreaking.

F*cking awful. I am ashamed, shaken, scared...

Exactly - how on earth can he justify the cuts now? And the media coverage last night was all "David Cameron has cut short his holiday in Tuscany ..." Poor Mr Cameron(!) He blo*dy should have been back here days ago!

I don't understand how the police could be doing anything more at the moment. They can't be everywhere at once. And nobody should have to go into work and face what they're having to face at the moment - being pelted with fireworks, golf clubs, bricks ... It's absolutely disgusting.

As a nation we seem to have regressed about 300 years in 3 days. We're supposed to be a civilised country. There's nothing civilised about those animals. They haven't even got a clue what they're rioting about. It's just "free stuff" to them. The one that got me was a girl on tv last night when a Sky News reporter asked her why she was doing it, said "We're getting our taxes back." What? By nicking flatscreen tvs from Currys. Absolutely pathetic. How much of the nation's taxes does she think are going to have to be spent on clearing up their mess? We're already struggling economically and we can't cope with things like this.

It's made me so angry to get up this morning and see copycat acts in Bristol & Liverpool etc. Hope we have a torrential downpour tonight as I genuinely think they wouldn't be quite so willing to be out if it did. Next best thing if the Home Sec/D. Cam. aren't willing to draft the army in with their water cannons.
